Random restarts when viewing myspace.com

My computer will randomly restart itself and then on startup I get the error "The system has recovered from a serious error".

The strange thing (to me at least) is that, without fail, it always happens when I'm on MySpace (http://www.myspace.com). I've tried loading up 10 different websites at once and clicking all over the place (pretty scientific, I know) and it never happens anywhere else.

Normally I would think this is an overheating issue or bad RAM maybe, but it just seems wierd that it would only happen on a specific website. I haven't had it happen in any other situation... gaming, video editing, etc. And the CPU temps aren't any different than they usually are... mostly below 50C. Sometimes it'll get up to 51-52C but its not even when I'm having the restarts happen. Seems like that's not the issue...

Any ideas?

I'm not even sure where to start. How can I start to narrow down the possibilities?

List out your system specs including your power supply please. Is this windows xp using internet explorer, firefox, or opera? Any specific myspace site or just in general (myspace sucks btw).

Doesn't sound like faulty hardware. The majority of those pages tend to have some kind of embedded stuff whether it's Flash, Quicktime, WMV, MP3, etc. etc. I'd be willing to bet it's caused by a browser plugin freaking out. If you're using Internet Explorer, you might try looking at MySpace in Firefox. If you're using Firefox, maybe IE will work...

Nothing is overclocked
All fans are functioning properly
Airflow in case is good

Crash happens in both Firefox and IE
It's not a specific page on myspace. But it's always somewhere on myspace when it happens.
I've even tried disabling Javascript, ActiveX, etc and I still hade it happen.

I've also run Spybot, AdAware, Ewido, HijackThis, etc and my system is clean. I'm running Avast AV and ZoneAlarm so it's unlikely a virus or some other such thing.

Like I said, I'm not sure what to even try to start ruling things out. As far as I can tell I've ruled everything out pretty much everything I can think of.


I would think if its a problem with the site itself, more people would be having the problem. It's like the 5th most popular site on the internet or something.

I would just stop going to the site, but I use it to promote my band and it's actually very useful and brings in a lot of new fans. I wish the fact that you think it sucks would solve my problem, but it doesn't seem to be helping.

maybe list a page or so that you have gone to that made you crash.... even tho it may seem competly random, maybe each page has somin in common that makes you crash...see if u can keep track and post it here....

Well, it did happen a lot on the page where you rearrange your "Top 8" friends. It's a new feature on the site and seems to be some kind of "AJAX" thing thhat lets you drag-and-drop people in your friends list.

But I am positive that it's happened in other places too. Main profile pages, viewing people's photos, viewing people's friends... I'll try to keep track of exactly where it happens, though and see if I can figure out what they have in common. The only thing I can think of is that maybe a lot of pages share the same javascript or something. But if bad Javascript is restarting my computer there has to be something I can do to prevent it. And the wierd thing is that I've been on myspace for a long time and it never happened before and all of a sudden now its happening all the time.

Either they added something that's causing it, or I did something on my end that's causing it.

Myspace posted a note on the 21st that a lot of pictures weren't displaying because McAfee AV was blocking the pictures as ads. Does Avast have any similar features which might cause the computer to be unstable?

Many MySpace profiles cause both IE and Firefox to crash for me as well.

After upgrading to Firefox 1.5 RC2 it seems to happen a lot less frequently. I'm thinking it was a combination of Firefox or IE crashing and the computer being unstable for some other unknown reason

Since it is still happening, I'd like to figure out what the problem is. Now I'm leaning more towards bad RAM or a driver issue.

I turned off the automatic restart feature and got some more info from the BSOD:

Points to faulty hardware or drivers. The hardware varies from modems, video cards, USB device to memory or sound cards. Sometimes it proves to be hardware that it is not compatible with Windows XP....

so the blurb goes.

And the entry also mentions faulty hardware and/or drivers (same as montag suggested).
