random restarts

hi, lately it seems like my pc's been screwed up, ever since i got a new keyboard and headset (i know thats not the reason), everytime i open a program my pc lags for like 20 seconds, when im playing cod2 and listening to music my pc just randomly restarts, and it seems like my hard drive has been making loud noises lately, im thinking its the hdd but it could be ram, any ideas?

Why don't you post what's in your event log when these crashes and such take place?

nothing, after my pc restarts it just says windows has recovered a serious error or something.

I suggest you run chkdsk on all of your hard drives, and if there is no change, check the drives with the manufacturer's utility to ensure there are no problems with them. Though you can do this regardless to make sure of it.

Right, so check the existance of a minidump in c:\windows\minidumps, and tell us what is present in the event log at that time, because something will be in there.

im not sure how to use dumpchk if i uploaded the dump file somewhere would it help? and zyfer, yes ive ran chkdsk a few days ago helped a little bit

Run MPSReports (see my sig for full directions; please follow them all) and send me the latest minidumps as well.

Harddrive could be dieing.
Or if your new keyboard and headset are USB, they may have crappy drivers that are causing problems with your system, or your system has crappy USB drivers, or you have an ancient computer that can't handle the load from USB. Try updating all your drivers, keyboard, headset, and motherboard/usb. Also, make sure you have service pack 2.
