Range of 802.11/Bluetooth/Wifi UNDERWATER?

I found a couple of links about how someone was able to connect to an Ipaq with Bluetooth that was submerged in some water... I'm curious as to which standard would have the greatest range and work the best. I understand that the frequencies at which wireless works results in 'attenuation' in water (akin to Microwaves) and can results in problems.

1) WTH would someone be interested in using WiFi underwater.

2) Both Bluetooth and 802.11b share the same frequency band, and the effects of water would be similar for both.

3) Water will significantly attenuate the signals, dramatically reducing the range.

Ack! 2.4GHz is not good under water, especially marine!

I have some MX700's that are 11meter (27MHz) that would probably do better but mice usually drown when falling into the drink so...

ah... well, that would make more sense.

In that event, you'd be better served with some low-frequency RC equipment. The attenuation of a signal travelling through water is proportional with it's frequency, and 2.4GHz stuff won't work well in that application.

Or, just do what real subs do and float an antenna to the surface.

OK, I just tried taking my laptop in the shower, and I can confirm it doesn't work! So forget about 802.11b.

CZroe hit it on the head. Curious about using wireless for possible control of a submersible and receiving a direct feed from onboard video.
