As a Met fan I love this trade. The Braves selling the future for a player that doesn't even address their greatest need. There is 0 chance of resigning Teixeira, Boras is his agent and that means the highest bidder, which could be the Mets since they'll be looking for a first basemen in 09.

As a Braves fan I feel good about your arrogance towards this trade thinking the Mets somehow became stronger.

As for the Braves, I like the trade. Salty was a great prospect but it was evident the Braves were protecting him from harm by not playing him for a possible trade. Tex played baseball here in Atlanta at Georgia Tech and I don't see any reason why he wouldn't want to play here long-term.

Reports are also coming in about the Dotel trade but I don't know who is being offered up. Hopefully some low level prospects.

Also, we (being the Braves) need some starting pitching. JoJo Reyes isn't very good. However Chuck James and Buddy Carlysle have been pitching great their past few outings. If we somehow picked up a #3 starter and tidy up the bullpen life will be great for Braves fans. If not, I feel we may miss the playoffs for the 2nd time in a row.

For Dotel I'm reading Kyle Davies & Scott Thorman...

I was really hoping the Yankees could pull of a trade for him. We could really use a solid 1st Baseman. But in the end I guess the evil empire doesn't always win.

Another loss for the ever crappy Texas Rangers. What did we get out of it? A first baseman and a nobody pitcher? No wonder we scrape the bottom of the barrel year after year. It doesn't solve the woes in pitching one bit. Great job, Dick! Err Hicks! :| :| :| :|

Why should we keep Tex? He is gone in a little over a year. Are we going to win this year? No way. Are we going to win next year? No way. Hicks gambled on pitching and lost. Hicks is an idiot but with Millwood, Padilla, Loe, and McCarthy you should be ok. Should is the key word there. I can't blame anyone but the pitchers for the horrible starting pitching this year. I can blame Daniels for trading Chris Young but that's neither here nor there.

Anyhow, we will stop paying $7 mil to A-ROD after this year, Michael Young will be here, Laird/Byrd/Cruz and some other key youngsters will be there, with some good prospects why not make that trade?

Apparantly the catcher/1B we got is supposed to hit .300/30. That's what Tex does. if you can get what Tex does (minus the defense) plus a good SS prospect, a righty prospect and if you believe the Atlanta Journal-Constitution a minor league lefty that has decent numbers then it seems like a good deal to me.

I am attached to very few players on this bad, bad rangers team. Michael Young is 1. Laird, Byrd, and maybe Vasquez since they have shown great potential. Other than that everyone else is a vet on a 1 year deal or too inconsistent to build a team around. And that is what we need, to build a team.

Boras gets the big money/short term contracts for his players at the expense of the teams/game. A radio station here in Dallas calls him the Baseball Anti-Christ.

If he was asking for such bad terms, why are the teams agreeing? I don't blame the agent for asking, I blame the GM for agreeing to a deal that will harm his team. The bad GMs are the ones destroying their team, and making things harder for other teams by driving up market value.

It is a vicious cycle, the teams are afraid to not pay the money due to someone else grabbing a good player and the fans revolting. All it takes is one team to overspend and it cascades across the league. I agree 100% with you but how do you stop the downward spiral?

Heh. Don't know how this is relevant now but apparently Salty was hot for teacher.

3) This last consideration may not bother many, but Salty has an unusual family situation. Now 21, he married a teacher at his high school in West Palm Beach, Fla., who is now 37, according to records. His wife Ashley, who recently gave birth to their second child, insisted to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that their personal relationship didn't begin until the fall of 2004, when Salty was 18.

The Rangers apparently are aware of Salty's unusual family situation and are said to believe he's maturing. Besides, switch-hitting catchers are hard to come by.

that's his business. Who he marries and what he does in his private life is something I couldn't care less about unless it in some way negatively affects other people (ie murder, fraud, etc). Besides if they have been together for 3 years that's longer than most professional's relationships.

Now it's strictly Kyle Davies for Dotel 1 for 1 http://www.kansascity.com/385/story/211348.html

Wow...I guess Moore thinks he can rehabilitate Davies's career or something.

I know. I thought that was a complete non-sequiter on the part of CNNSI. Something they just added because it was titillating but totally irrelevant.

Good trade for the Braves. They may be able to survive and make it into the playoffs without picking up another starting pitcher with these upgrades.

Braves are also pursuing Bronson Arroyo from the Reds.

Yeah seriously, good job Braves for trying to win now, I just hope they haven't completely demolished their farm system to do so. As a rangers fan I like this trade since I hate Scott Boras and even though I would love to see Tex stay there is no way he would be here in a year and a half anyways. Agent that gets lots of money + owner that doesn't spend much money = no go.
