Ransomware - Which is best?

We all know the consequences of getting hit with ransomware. I've been a McAfee subscriber for many years but just recently noticed that they don't include checking for ransomware. Yes, I occasionally use Malwarebytes and HitmanPro if I suspect a problem. My question is:

Seems like writing anti-ransomware would be pretty easy as just stop any compression type programs from running without specific permission. That way your PKZIP or ARJ won't be affected. Or just write exclusions for ZIP and ARJ or any others you might need. Heck, I might try and write something myself.

Which software is best that includes anti virus and ransomware?

Bitdefender (among others) has ransomware protection in it's product.

However, there are always new kinds of ransomware popping up (just like viruses/malware/exploits), so the security companies are always playing catch-up to the people doing it. The only 100% protection against threats to your computer/files is to maintain (offline) backups, and have the ability to restore the files if something happens.

Windows 10 has a ransomware protection option built into Windows Security but you have to turn it on. I don't know how well it works since I just found out about it and turned it on.
