Rant: Best Buy

First off, I only went to Bestbuy because of the driving distance is alot closer than Fry's.

So, I went into BB to get a pricematch on a Samsung 32'' lcd from Fry's ($699). Reg price ($999)

A BB worker asked to help me, so I showed him the ad wanting to get a pricematch. He tried telling me that he knew all the managers at FRY's and said those tv's at FRY's are all refurbished items. Saying that he does not work on commission. He wouldn't lie to me.

He took down the SKU# to talk with a manager about the pricing. 10 minutes later, he came back telling me the lowest they can go is $859. Saying stuff about because Fry's tv are refurbished, this is the best price they can do. Argued with him for a minute about if it was refurbished, wouldn't they have to label it for legal reasons. Then I asked him what about your price matching policy, I asked to get a price match for $699, you come back with a price of $859. (What is that BS)

In the end I got them to match the ad's price. Just wanted to share my wonderful experience at BB.

From my experience at BB trying to get a pricematch, it's clear their strategy is to just deny, deny, deny until you go away or until they realize you are willing to fight to the death and they give in.

I had an assistant manager at BB give me a couple easily-refuted reasons why they couldn't PM to CC on a cheap item, and when I explained why her reasons were unjustified, she just walked away. That's one way to avoid giving a PM! I was buying about $150 worth of other stuff and asked for a PM on one item which would have cost them a couple bucks. Ended up abandoning the whole pile of items on the counter and leaving.

i had a similar pain in the ass experience last night....went to price match Assassins Creed (frys has it for $40) and they said no beacause Fry's doesnt sell it until 11/15.

I hope they try and deny it today after telling me yesterday they wouldn't do it till tomorrow. Idiots.

Were they right? If so I don't see the problem. Their policy is to pricematch things that a competitor sells that's in stock at that time for that price.

The rant was how can they BS customers on PM. It was suppose to be a "match" not a $150 discount like the first offer they came back to me with.

I don't know where these rumors get started - when I worked at Circuit City, our cell phone prices were often less than half those from the actual carriers' stores, and their sales reps would tell customers ours were refurbished, when they weren't. It starts as a rumor somewhere, and then eventually becomes "fact".

Hey you got the deal, congrats

I remember getting a ton of free best buy merchandise back when the McDonald's game still had best buy bucks. You could use them online and then go into the store and use them there. All they did was put their coupons in little baggies and toss them in the garbage, so a friend of mine managed to get a few of those bags. I felt okay with it because of how many BBSucks threads show up here around the Holidays. What is it about this time of year that makes normally intelligent ATOTers think that they'll have a delightful experience at Best Buy?

i have never had a bad experience in any retailer. I am not sure if the people here who have issues come off as arrogant and get peoples' backs up or what. I worked at BB for a while in HS, and never had an issue or saw a manager being unfair to a customer.
