This frankly is just a huge rant post and there won't be clifs. My friend just recently got discharged from the Marines and last saturday was his birthday so we headed out to Dave and Busters in Milptas,ca from Concord, ca, it's about 45-50 mile drive. We get to D&B and we all pay the 5 dollar cover ( I paid for my buddy) and they let us all in except my friend. The refused to let my buddy in because his driver license expired (expired on his B-day). My buddy renewed his license at DMV but they punched a hole in his current license. The bouncer said they couldn't accept it as a vaild form of ID cause it had a hole punched in it. So my Buddy was like no problem and showed the guy his Military ID and the F-ing bouncer wouldn't take it. I mean come the F on, he had a expired Driver license and a Vaild Military ID and he the guy still would not let us in. We demanded to speak to the manager and he was a bigger A hold than the bouncer. The manager said he could only let us in with a drivers license and he couldn't accept the military ID because it didn't list his eye color listed on it. I mean talk about being a A hole it's my friends birthday, he's obivously over 21 (he turned 26) and he had vaild Military ID and on top of that he'd just gotten discharged about 1 1/2 ago and was looking forward to going to D&B's. seriously give a guy a break. The worse part was after he refused to let our friend in he wouldn't even give us a refund. 4 of us paid to get in and guy wouldn't give us a refund. His reason was that there was nothing wrong with our id's so there was nothing stoping us from going inside...so no refund. Seriously like we were going to go inside and leave our friend behind. I just finished telling this story to a co-worker and I'm all pissed off again. I'm going to make a point of returning there and not leaving untill something breaks

They sound like tools but just because they let your friend in doesn't necessarily mean they "hate the military".

Why didn't your friend have his new driver's license with him?

I think they should have let him in because he was clearly old enough, but you won't get any sympathy from me if you're going to pull the "the hate the military" angle.

I just see stupidity.

You made the right call to not leave your friend behind and they were serious jerks for not refunding your money as a result.

for that alone I'd contact their corp. office and explain the whole situation.

but drop the "hate the military" theme, that's like playing the race card.

Wow....what a bunch of pricks. I guess if for legal reasons they could not accept the ID, I mean they don't want to get sued either. But they could have been nicer about it or at the very least giving they guys who already paid a refund. I didn't even realize they had "bouncers" at Dave and Busters. I would contact the corporate offices (if they have one) and/or the local paper, news.

It's one of those you had to be there moments. The bouncer looked at his Military ID and gave my buddy a line of I can only take a drivers license. The manager though was a prick he could see it was a vaild ID and just yea the eye color not listed on the ID, I cant take this. My buddys obviously over 21 and he could clearly see the Military ID was vaild and the tone in his voice was almost like he was taking pleasure in ruining our night.

My buddy went to the DMV to renew the license but it takes about a week or so for them to mail you the new license. He had that printout license with him but it says not a ID all over it. and for the hate the military thing, you had to be there. I swear the guy took pleasure in turning down.

Don't play the military angle excpet to tell it to your local TV news station. Just say, "my buddy just got discharged and the only thing he wanted to do was go have some fun at D&B. Too bad they refused him entry and took our money without a refund."

Let the news show do the work for you. Nothing like a little bad press to make people hop to it. But please don't call them anti-military. Stupid is strong enough.

What fantasy world do you people live in where this is an actual surprise? People get turned away from bars for much dumber reasons than not having an id. If his license was expired he should of just showed him the Military ID first. I wouldn't let anyone trying to use an expired license into my bar.

If anything a military ID is more valid than a crappy state one. How many people are going to fake a military ID and end up going to FPMITA prison so they can get into a bar?

The guy was just being a tool.

While a real asshole move on the part of the bouncer and management... It doesn't seem out of the stratosphere of reasonable. I have gotten into D&B with an expired ID (no hole punched in) but they wouldn't serve me alcohol. If I owned a bar, I would give people with Military Id's a discount, but that's just me and it is easy to say since I don't own a bar.

not saying anything for D&B, i hate that place, but I don't think they were terribly out of line. Your friend had an expired ID, and this D&B hates the military thing seems kinda petty.

Unfortunately, I don't think that would hold up in court

Silly question here...1 1/2 what ago and if he'd been "discharged" why does he still have an ID?

expired Driver license and a Vaild Military ID

if your friend was discharged his military ID was not valid. there is a expire date on the front of the card and its never past your end of enlistment date.

Edit: since when does the military ID not have eye color??? I smell something fishy here.
