So I bought this textbook last semester and the stupid bitch who sold it to me never sent it and kept very poor contact. I ended up without a book for the first two weeks of class and ultimately had to pay nearly double the price at a local bookstore.

It took half.com like two months to even realize and come to a conclusion that I was due my money back for an item never sent, so they decided in my favor. Great. On goes another few weeks before I get a reply back today, saying that I will receive the full amount on the original method of purchase.

I let the agent who handled my case know that my bank card that I used to pay for the textbook I got burnt for was preemptively canceled due to a merchant-side compromise, and that I was reissued a new one, and that the old one is no longer in service. I proposed that the refund be applied to the disbursement half.com will make to my bank account for the two books I sold this week.

Here is the reply I received:

After reviewing your email, I gather that the credit card you used for
this transaction is no longer in use. I apologize for any inconvenience
this may have caused. I am happy to help you with this concern.

I'm sorry to hear that this credit card is no longer active. However,
our billing system allows us to issue refunds only to the credit card
that was originally used to make the purchase. I apologize for the
inconvenience.

As much as we would like to apply the refund as a payment for your
listing fees, apparently, we are unable to do so. Our system only allows
us to refund to the credit card used for a transaction.

You may contact your credit card company directly and explain the
situation. A representative should be able to explain the procedures
that they have in place for these types of situations, which are
relatively common.

I’m glad I was able to provide an option on how you can get the refund
we have applied to your account Thank you for being so patient
throughout this case process.

I was really surprised that they would not offer a refund via paypal, or even put it as a balance forward on my account for the textbooks im going to buy for spring semester in a few days. I love how they play like half.com is something different from ebay, and the agent even says that shes working for ebay, who also owns paypal. I also love it how half.com's feedback is integrated into ebay's feedback system too. So now I see, your employees all work for the group's corporation but play blind to one another in concept and policy.

So this one goes to you, ebay/half/paypal/skype: FUCK YOU!

cliffs/tldr;
1. bitch burned me for a textbook last semester, had to buy at bookstore for 2x price
2. refund issued in my favor. original bank card was replaced.
3. half.com wants to keep full amount of book 'recovered' just because the original card is not active, and will not pursue alternative methods of reimbursement.
4. fuck you half.com
5. fuck you ebay.com
6. fuck you paypal.com
7. fuck you skype.com

i also love how half.com will let you purchase postage using paypal.

they will take my money any way but will try to screw me for it when im due it back.

Those are actually pretty standard corporate book keeping processes, believe it or not. And due to various securities laws they're actually not even allowed to do what you're requesting. I'm sure the card that was issued as a new one is still tied to your banking account. Just give your bank a call and they'll tell you the procedure for getting the refund. More likely than not they'll still see the refund coming in under the previous card and process the refund to your banking account. I've had to do it once myself and the process was pretty smooth.

I got quasi-owned by half.com a couple years ago.

I needed to purchase a textbook so I searched for the ISBN and a few options came up. I (obviously) clicked on the cheapest one and bought that one.

Later in the mail I got the workbook instead of the actual text. The official title for the workbook (and the way it's listed on every other website) is, "Workbook for...". On half.com it was simply listed as the book title. The picture for the book was also the same as the actual book as the workbook looks different. I also arrived at the page clicking a link by searching for the actual ISBN, showing the actual picture with the actual book title.

I state quasi-owned because despite these other differences the ISBN did correctly list the workbook.
