Heh, I guess it depends on the situation. He says he was on 97, so I'm guessing he was south of Baltimore. At 1:30 in the morning, I probably wouldn't have gotten out of my car either. The first time I ever got pulled over was like 2 miles from my house by MD State Troopers. They let me climb around in my car, very much out of their sight, where I could have had a gun hidden or something, to look for my registration in my car. I definitely asked them first, though. This is something I never would have done in Chicago.
Yes I was almost at my exit (Bowie Rt.3) driving in the right lane minding my business. I really wanted to wave my arm out the window but didn't want to accelerate the situation, he might think I'm trying to get a gun or something and call for backup. I just wanted to get home and go to bed after a long weekend and didn't want trouble.

Theft is theft, whether intentional or unintentional. Robbed = something taken from you. I will give him the benefit of the the doubt and say that he FORGOT to give it back, but the skeptic in me is finding that hard to fathom considering many of my friends tell me they've had it done to them.

And what is with all the cop bashing threads lately?
Did you even read the post? I felt I was profiled because I had out of state tags, where did I say anything about race? Lmao

Hmm, never heard of being profiled for having out of state tags.
I just figured it was race because it would have been ignorant, much like your feelings about being "robbed". Don't be a dolt.

OMG, go to the station and pick it up.

I've accidentally kept patients drivers licenses before and we either 1) drop it off with them or 2) they pick it up themselves. Honest mistake.

They profile out of state plates because chances are that the person will pay his ticket no contest via mail, rather than take a day off from work, drive or fly to contest it in court. It is easy money for them

Have you ever been to traffic court? It's a joke, especially for speeding tickets. You would have gotten up there, told your little story, and the judge wouldn't care. He would ask the cop what happened, the cop would say that he caught you speeding, verified with the gun and motor pacing... and then you would have had to pay the ticket.

Don't ever expect to get out of a speeding ticket by going to traffic court, you just have to pay the fine and get on with your life.

Don't lie to the interviewer. They usually check your record, and (I'm guessing) warnings probably go on your record.

If you honestly can say you've never heard of people being harrassed for having out of state tags then consider yourself lucky. Let me indulge you with another story proving this point:

About 10 months ago I was driving in Southern Maryland and a cop followed me for FIVE miles without turning his lights on... I had speakers wrapped in trashbags bungee'd and safety strapped in the bed of my pickup truck, with my friend riding shotgun. I asked my friend, why is this cop following me for so long? We didn't have a clue...

At about mile 6 of trialing, officer pulls me over (he was a local cop) after scrutinizing my license plates. How do I know this? Because he asked me why my tag had "02" instead of "03" on it. He was just looking for a reason to pull me over, and I bet that he even ran my plates. He then gives me a $50 ticket for not having registration up to date, and states that he's "still confused" about how my plates checked out but I didn't have the correct sticker on it. I explained that I was still waiting for my reg stickers in the mail via NJ DMV but my registration had been paid which was why my car "checks out". He still had a confounded look on his face.

Then he asks me where I live, and why I was going "camping" down here. I told him I had speakers in the back, and that I do in fact live down here but am working on a short term contract so I hadn't switched my plates over. He could have been nice and just given me a warning but found out I'm not living here permanently so felt that he'd generate some profit and hit me up for $50.

Perfect example of how you can be harrassed by if you have out of state tags. Hopefully this will enlighten you to some of the law's practices, and you can understand why you are pulled over when you did nothing obscenely wrong.

So radar doesn't have a +/-3% differential? Exactly, any good lawyer can get you out of moving violation points, of course you're going to have to pay a fine (IF they have a 0-5, or 0-9mph over fine but some states don't) and court costs. It's all part of their "plan" to generate money.

That's not a big deal. The officers ID number and name are on the warning he gave you (if he used the MD form I think he did). Got the MD state police website, look up the closest barracks to where you were stopped, call and give your information to the duty officer. They will return it to you. It was an honest mistake. He didn't rob you. MSP is a good orginization with some fine troopers. BTW: You could have asked him as soon as you realized the mistake. I find it more evidence of your paranoia, than real danger that you didn't.

I can understand people's sentiments that it's not a big deal, but not having my license is a big deal to me when I have a career changing interview tomorrow. I now have to lie about the license because some cop with nothing better to do felt he would harrass me... then realizes that I have a clean record...

If you read the post correctly, I stated that I didn't have time to check my papers before he went back to his car... He did it really quick and muttered something that I couldn't understand.

I understand that yeah I was speeding but honestly there wasn't another car doing less than me. Add to the fact that I'm in the car for 3.5 hours and you can't tell me you wouldn't be doing 5-10 or more over the speed limit... Now I have to go an hour and a half out of my way of an already busy schedule, wtf!! LEAVE US ALONE COPS!

God, i cant believe our government is even considering hiring someone as paranoid and ignorant as you.

"I didnt want to gesture towards the police officer because i didnt want to endanger my life." I can't
'em hard enough, man. Really. You think the cop is gonna shoot you for putting your hand out the window?

I see two explanations for this post:

1) Youre the stupidest person ever to walk the face of the planet.
2) Youre the worst troll ever to surf the internet.

You might be able to get out of the points, but only if you get a lawyer. That will cost you a few hundred, plus whatever the fine is... and even then you could still end up w/ the points if the judge is a d!ck about it. If you try and argue the inaccuracy of the Radar by yourself in traffic court, you will be laughed out of the room. Trust me.

Since when do states not have a 0-9 fine?? That's about the dumbest thing I've heard all day... show me some linkage on that.

It's all part of their "plan" to generate money
Exactly my point... Traffic court is a joke, it's a money machine for the state. Go into any traffic court to observe, and I can pretty much guarantee that you will come out believing that the theory is "Guilty until proven Innocent". I have come to the conclusion that I need to just accept what is given to me by the cops, and not deal with going to court anymore. If I can go to traffic school/etc. then fine, but other than that I am at thier mercy.

In all of my times at traffic court, I have learned one universal and immutable truth: There is no way to get out of a speeding ticket.

I have been in more traffic court than any human being should have to be sudjected to..and in Maryland to boot. In 80% of the cases I saw you did gain something from going to court, usually a reduction or removal of points which is well worth going to court IMHO...and people did get off completely sometimes if they had good explanations or evidence. Best I saw was a University of MD Physics professor who did a twenty minute presentation with powerpoint and a Lighwave animation with data on the specifications of his tires, car, force vectors of the supposed turn, etc. demonstrating that for his car to do what he was accused of doing he would have had to have been traveling approximately 400 miles per hour and decellerated to 0 in about 3 seconds. All points, court costs, and fine waived in that case.

Well, you were not robbed. Sounds like an honest mistake to me. But LOL at all the people taking the high road about speeding. I'm guessing 90%+ of you get pissed and mumble to yourselves about cops having nothing better to do when you get speeding tickets. If you say otherwise, I'm calling you a liar now.

Its not a mistake depending on where you are. I live indiana but go to school in michigan. I have gotten pulled over and because i have an out of state liceanse it is procedure in michigan to take the drivers liceanse and hold it untill you appear for court or pay the ticket. Untile you do either you can use the ticket or warning as proof of your liceanse. You probably just have to go to the police station and get it. Sucks but up here its how you play the game.
