Rant: What is up with movies making you make a choice of what version to watch?

Recently it was District 9 and now the same with Daybreakers. You're given a choice at the beginning "Human or Vampire". Not Director's Cut or Theatrical Release...no, you must choose between Human or Vampire. What is that? Is one better? Is one longer? Which was the one in the theaters? I don't even know if choosing one over the other does anything. Maybe, this is some sort of convoluted joke by the producers that are somehow laughing away as I stare at the screen for a while not having any idea wtf I'm doing. Am I going to watch both and keep notes to keep track of their differences?

If I could reach through the screen and throat punch the person responsible I would.

So, let me get this straight. I sit down to watch a movie, pop the popcorn, get myself an adult beverage, work my way through all the crap that won't allow you to go to the main menu, then when presented with the choice I should leave the wife to sit there while I walk over and boot up the computer and then google it to find what this choice does?

Please, never enter the movie production field.

I didn't like having to choose for district 9. I just want the theater version no matter what movie. You can put your alternate endings there too but I won't watch them til later.

I remember thinking the same thing with the District 9 DVD. I agree, wtf is the point in these uninformative menu choices? I just figured it was only differing menu art, who knows what the real difference was.
