I must say I am utterly disgusted with Newegg. In the past I always hated ordering from them. Their shipping rates to Alaska / Hawaii / Puerto Rico have always been about pure greed on their part. No where near a justifiable price, it was and still is a major over gouger on shipping to these places.
However the friendly people over here at AT HD forums encourage me to try using Newegg vs my regular trusted company of Directron.com. I was being rather skeptical of trying Newegg again. I already knew their shipping practices were out of this world for the rural parts of the United States. But on the day of placing the order, Newegg had one thing going for them that Directron did not. They had the item in stock, or so their web site claimed.
I add the item to my cart, select payment method (Check/money order), placed the order, than call their customer support to verify their mailing address for payment. Their staff member indicates to me that Newegg has to receive payment fast for a check/money order type of payment otherwise the order will be canceled and I should have tracking on my mailed payment to know when Newegg gets payment should any problems arise. And if I am in a hurry to get the item, I should pay with certified funds. Either a bank draft or a postal money order so I do not have to wait up to 10 business days to the payment to clear. Sounds reasonable enough to me.
So I dish out the extra $. USPS's extra charge for delivery confirmation. And their fee for money orders. All in all. $4.60 for Postage, $0.65 for delivery confirmation, $1.05 for the money order, $17.50 taxi fare to the post office and back home, plus the $214.84 payment for the item with shipping. All in all, $238.64 tied up on this order.
I mailed the payment April 1, USPS attempted to deliver the payment April 4 but instead a notice was left. On April 7 they officially got the payment. On the evening of April 8 I still have not gotten any update from Newegg so I go online to chat with them on their live help. I give their staff member the tracking number and he verified that they did receive payment and will forward our conversation to their sales department for expedited processing. Thinking to myself wow, while this transaction is not going the smoothest, but Newegg finally got their customer support to an acceptable level versus what it used to be in the past.
Come April 9, I log into my account to check the order status and I see on their it is on 'step 3' of their order status guide but still has not shipped or was even getting ready to ship. Thinking time is getting short, I need this order fast, but can wait 1 more day and gave them the benefit of the doubt. That morning (the 10th) I checked their web site before logging in and the part I had ordered and it still showed as in stock. 2 more hours go by knowing that they can not have shipped it that early and I check my email. In that email they CANCELED my order. No specific reason as to why, but they did. I go onto their web site to not only find it was indeed canceled, I check their online store... unlike other items that are out of stock which have a notify option to let us know when they get it in. The item I ordered is completely vanished off their web site. Off I go to call them, they will be issuing me a full refund for the order price in 2-3 business days. I asked them about the cost for mailing the payment, the additional tracking option, and the cost for the money order which was all recommended by their staff. And they refused to refund those parts. At which point I started getting a little more insistent that I should be getting refunded for those costs as it was their staff that recommended it. Then their CS agent started getting rude to me basically saying that is not Newegg's problem.
Overall this company is trash. It was trash in the past, it is trash in the present, and unless some major changes happen, it will be trash in the future. I am never again going to consider ordering from them and I urge everyone else not too either.
Neweggs 9.whatever customer satisfaction on ResellerRatings can kiss my ass. I can not believe any one of them or the people in the HD forums here that Newegg is a good company. They have always treated 10 million + people like shit ( Alaskans, Hawaiians, and Puerto Ricans ) with their unreasonable shipping rates that are WELL over UPS/FedEx shipping rates. But now they do a low blow by totally screwing me over.
All they had to do, which I can not imagine is hard... was grab 1 item off their inventory shelves, get it ready for shipping or put it on hold. Instead no, they sell the product to other people holding onto my money earning interest on it in their bank account and they will not even ship me the full version of the product for their screw-up... which was the retail version of Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate with SP1 upgrade.
Another thing happened while I was chatting with their online staff too which I think was bogus. I go on ahead and try putting the full version of the software into my shopping cart. It was not listed as OOS (ie, the add to cart button was there instead of the auto-notify on the product description page) So I click add to cart, when the cart page goes up it says that item is no longer in stock.
Did it really sell out? Personally I think not. I think the egg is getting into the practice of selling items that they do not have in stock as I had asked that staff person if they would bite a few dollars for the trouble they gave me. I know Ingram Micro's pricing structure which I believe is where Newegg gets most of their software products from. Newegg would have still made money sending me the full version vs the upgrade version. The profit just would not have been as big.
Well, have at it you Egg fans. You all costed me money when I could have just as easily bought from ZZF. @ least they are honest and have decent shipping to rural united states.
