If you can't afford to move out of your parent's house, don't buy a new car.

A friend of mine has lived at home since she was 26, wanted to move out, hasn't been able to, yet now has a lovely new 2009 (or 2010, I forget) Honda Fit.

Don't understand.

Personally, I'd rather have a place of my own than a new car, but that's just me.

A honda fit is like 12 dollars a month... I doubt that is keeping her from moving out...

How old is she now? Sounds like she doesn't want to leave.

Huh? It was like $17,000. For someone who makes an hourly wage, it's tough.

She's 26. She always bitches about how her parents don't treat her like an adult. But then she can never seem to move out.

Did she have an old car? Did it run? Was it reliable?

A reliable car is an essential part of being able to work. Work = Money = Move out.

I hate to say it, but if her parents are letting her live rent-free in their house, she has no right to complain.

That's nothing, had a friend from high school that had a new motorcycle and a WRX STi and was still living at home last I knew. I don't think he ever got on with life.

Yes, she did, and yes it ran.

It ran, or it was reliable?

It was a 1998 Honda but had no issues and only 100,000 miles or so.

I have to agree, I've never understood that ordering of priorities. Moving into your own place is 1000x more important than having your own car. However, maybe it depends on the type of area you live in or something like that (non-urban?).

That's cool and all, but 1/5 of what she spent will buy that.

Be manly and bang her, then take her car away and make her cook you breakfast. Women shouldn't be driving anyway.

Mind your own business. Free rent means more disposable income! I think you're just jealous he's got a new car.
