Moral... This is the only word I can think of. I have access too a lot of unopened software at school, and I know they worth thousands of dollars. But I never thought about doing this kind of things. Not because someone will find out, but because I have the word "moral" in my mind.

I used to work for Fry's Electronics and getting store credit on an item that you didn't buy there, especially if its high priced, is nearly impossible. Truly expensive items usually have their serial number printed on the receipt. High priced software is usually locked up and the only way you can get it out is to have an associate get it for you, who will then generate a quote for you, so if you try to return it they do have ways of tracking it to see if you really bought the stuff or not.

What store number did you work in Fry's? (Store #9 -- SJ?)Whether to give a store credit to a customer is really depends on the mood of the CSR, and also the price of the item. A high price item, say over $100, forget it. I had purchase quite a few items, infact, over $10,000 worth of electronics for the past 3 years with them. I have no problem returning it to them w/o the receipt. All you have to do is give them your customer number. They can find it by your customer number, CC#(I thought it's illegal to log CC#s????) or perhaps just by plain searching through the item purchase in the receipt log file. I have a PO acct with them, so returning things seems to be pretty easy. The only problem I have with them was the bogus long wait in line and CSR trying to BS you.
