so I am trying to get Vista installed on a raptor hard drive.

My current install sees the raptor, installs it and allows me to access it.

However, when I go into the windows installer (through vista, or boot) it doesn't show up at all. Not even when its the only hard drive attatched

Any ideas on how to fix this?

what motherboard do you have, how is the raptor connected (ie primary sata or is it off of a raid controller)?

Have you tried connecting anither drive to the same sata connector and if so does it show up in the vista installer?

If you have Vista already installed and then install XP, the Vista install will go to "bit heaven" and nothing on the drive, except the XP install, will be accessible. You better do some reading.
Here's a start:
Windows Vista no longer starts after you install an earlier version of
the Windows operating system in a dual-boot configuration

I switched the sata connector to my other hard drive and it shows up fine.

Also< I only have Vista installed. I just want to transfer it to a 10000 rpm drive

it shows up in my computer, but not the installer...

Specifically, what are you referring to when you say "the installer"?

Then I'm confused. You're trying to use th Vista install disk to transfer Vista to another drive?
The Vista install disk only installs a new copy or repirs an existing installation.
The new HDD should have come with software to do that. If you don't have it, it is available from WD as a download.

Sounds to me that you are missing a sata driver. Make sure your sata settings are not set to raid in bios. You could also try another sata port.
