Hello

Just got one of them there raptor hard drives and a couple of questions. This is my first serial ata hard drive......

Does it matter which power plug too use on it? The standard or the Sata power.....

It says you don't need a Master Slave jumper on Sata which is pretty self explanatory but it is jumpered now on 1 and 2 which disables Spread Spectrum Clocking which I have no idea what that means.....

And theres an option too jumper 3 and 4 which enables pm2 power up in standby......

And then the other two jumpers just say opt1 and opt2 whatever thats for.....

Thanks for any replies....

For the Power - Use ONLY standard or Sata .. no Both, does not really matter

Jumper - Id leave it where it is, over 1 and 2

Spread Spectrum Clocking Full Details
But it basically is this "Spread-spectrum clocking does nothing more than help a device lower its emissions to meet FCC regulations"

PM2 Power Up, quote from Western digital
Power management allows the drive to be powered-up into the Standby power management state to minimize inrush current at power-up and to allow the host to sequence the spin-up of devices.

the rest of the jumpers are for factory use, guess for debugging or something

ok, I use the SATA power plug just because it looks cleaner and is built specially for SATA, i don't know if it helps it but it doesn't hurt it.

put the jumpers in a bag and save them for something that needs them

That's a bad idea, here is a quote from the linked information Dahak posted:

"If your Serial ATA controller or controller card do not support SSC, you should leave the jumper shunt on your WD Serial ATA drive in the SSC disabled position."

Unless you are running your whole system SSC, why pull the jumper?

As someone who uses 74GB Raptors in two of my machines I would highly recomend this connection with whatever your power supply is, don't touch the jumpers there is no need for that at all.

That secure connect cable is worth every penny especially if you attend LAN parties or you are constantly inside your computer. Peace of mind really, would hate to snap a connector on that $200+ hard drive!

$200+ IIRC I paid $179 each for mine. If you paid more then $200 you got ripped off.
