I'm not "throwing imports in your face", I only said that because someone mentioned Hondas. "Normal" cars in general were kind of ugly in the 80s IMO (not talking about exotics), although I did like some...

1987 - 1989 Chrysler Conquest / Mitsubishi Starion
MKIII Supra
1987 - 1992 Pontiac Trans Am GTA
1986 - 1988? Buick Grand National / GNX
Late 80's Porsche 944

There are others, but I don't feel like looking any more up, and I'm sure you get the idea.

And that's probably the worst 3rd gen Prelude pic ever. I don't know where that guy found those hideous rims. Anyways, better pic

Just assumed they were stock rims. First non-modified car that popped up on a google image search.

I use to own one of those, not the FS edition.Iinterior was way cool, dash was blacked out until you sat in the drivers seat and a pressure sensing switch lit it up and all digital. Thats the only good thing I can say about it, was probably the biggest piece of junk I ever owned.

Gorgeous.
A Travesty.

Here's the best looking car from the 80s: 300ZX

Was that style introduced for the 1989 model year, or 1990?? I always thought the boxy, angular 300ZX was in production thru 1989, and that style debuted the following year. Google shows mixed results...so I'm not so sure anymore...

"The old 1980's CRX gets the same or better mileage than a Toyota Prius."

Those 80's high mileage cars had high NOx emissions though, iirc. So the comparison is not really valid.

I still like both styles. The old angular 300ZX was a good-looking car.

I like this Chrysler. It still looks like a substantial car and would be built like a tank.

And like most American cars of the early 1980s it will have all the performance of a sleeping turtle.

And a 440 will fit under the hood to fix that problem

Fixed. In the early '80s, automakers worldwide were still kind of reeling from the relatively new emissions requirements established in the US in the mid '70s, and had the dismal HP / torque ratings across the board to prove it. Double digits were the norm for 4 bangers, and even most V8 cars of the day could only muster up in the range of 140 - 200 hp.

And not just American cars either. We get it - you don't like domestics. But at least give credit where it is (or isn't) due.

As do I...although, if given the choice, I'd certainly prefer the 1990? - 1998 style. I've always loved those. Although, I have heard horror stories about trying to work on one.

Well, in all fairness you could get some pretty cool Italian cars that were no doubt quite fun to drive. I'm sure a 1980 Porsche 911 was still better than a 1980 Corvette.

BTW-My wife had a 1986 BMW 325e with an automatic transmission and that thing was a complete dog. It didn't really accelerate so much as it accrued speed over time, kind of like a savings bond. I had a 1986 Mustang GT convertible 5spd that was much much faster and more fun to drive...especially with the top down.

How can you defend this ugly pile of crap though?

True, though even the 327 cars from '68 will command more money than an identical-condition '80-'82, and there's really no performance difference between a stock 327 and the 350 that was in the '80-'82 cars. The HP ratings are different, but that can be put down to the difference of gross versus net measurement (300 gross hp for the 327, 230 net hp for the 350 in the '80).

There's more to it than just performance.
