Edit: Why didn't her pediatrician discover this before she was one? I have an awesome pediatrician and she conducted my daughter's first physical exam which included a quick look in her vagina with an ottoscope.

Women with the condition appear completely normal externally - which means it is usually not discovered until a woman tries to have sex, or has not had her first period.

Also, you're assuming that her family also had an "awesome" pediatrician....or that she had one at all. I'd also bank that most women never had their vagina's probed as infants by a doctor. I surely didn't.

For many women, their first vagina probe by a doctor is during their first Pap Smear.

The distal 1/3 of the vagina and all the outer business developmentally comes from different tissue than the baby making parts and the proximal 2/3.

The outer (visable) 1/3 of her who-ha probably looks completely normal.
