[2/2/2011 EDIT]: I messed up and took a 3 week break starting from the day I got all my wisdom teeth pulled. I plan on restarting soon, most likely tomorrow. Can't wait til I feel the initial workout soreness all over again . Up to the point I took a break, I was able to do 10 consecutive pullups, I could do pushups all day with rest, could do the entire plyometrics along with the curly haired guy in the back.

I've lost more weight since I took a break. As of today I am 176lbs but I think that is due to muscle shrinkage, LOL.

[12/23/2010 EDIT]: Added pics and retested my vitals and good ole' walgreens.

Height: 6'
Weight: 180lbs
Age: 32
BodyFatRatio (according to the doohicky inside walgreens): 22%
Heart Rate (same doohicky machine): 66 BPM
Blood Pressure (same doohicky): 130/81
Oxygen (same doohicky): 100
Calculated BMI: 24.6

[12/21/2010 EDIT]: OMG, I lost weight. I'm on the 3rd week of P90x and I have lost a whoppin 4lbs. I am now 181lbs but strangely I look better than that. My belt is now notched 1 hole tighter so I think I lost around half inch around my waist. I think eating helped tremendously with losing weight while the workout helps with my energy level and feeling more fit.

The great thing is that my wife is doing the morning workouts with me so it's forcing me to push myself even harder to try to out-do her. Today's was the plyometrics and I did the whole thing but did double on some of the jumps and I felt like such a man because my wife could only keep up with Tony. LOL. Pics to come tomorrow morning.

[12/13/2010 EDIT]: On the 2nd week of P90x and I think I'm doing OK so far. I'm only able to do about 1/2 of what the trainers do online for all the strength workouts but I can keep up the entire plyometrics and kenpo-x. I can do the yoga-x but not nearly as flexible to reach the entire way. My back is sore as hell, my neck is killing me too and I get cramps a lot faster. Although I haven't lost any weight, I do feel like I have a little more energy and I can fall asleep faster (used to take me 1-2 hours to fall asleep).

One change I instantly notice is how hungry I am all the time now. I'm trying to keep up with the diet plan but damn, I get shakey sometimes from being so hungry. I've also cut out a lot of fatty and processed food from my daily cousine. Trying to cut a lot of the carbs out too.

[12/7/2010 EDIT]: Running 4 times a week wasn't doing a thing for me except exhausting me. I took a week break in November because I got sick but other than that, kept it consistent. Didn't lose a single pound and the run never got easier.

Switched to P90x. Currently on the 3rd day "chest and arms." Arms are pretty sore as is my stomach. Is it normal to dry heave towards the end of each session? Gonna finish up the entirety of P90x to see what happens.

[8/23/2010 EDIT]: Wife says I need more cardio so I started jogging in the mornings. I don't really have a plan so I've been running to the local park and back for a round trip of 1.5 miles. Every day, my times get worse and I feel more like crap. 10.5 minutes, then 11.25 minutes and this morning 11.45 minutes.

When does the "runner's euphoria" kick in and I feel good rather than punched in the gut?

[ORIGINAL]
So I'm trying to figure out my general fitness and need some subjective opinions. Depending on the results, I might enroll to a gym or start doing something.

Height: 6'
Weight: 185lbs
Age: 32
BodyFatRatio (according to the doohicky inside walgreens): 25%
Heart Rate (same doohicky machine): 60 BPM
Blood Pressure (same doohicky): 125/85
Oxygen (same doohicky): 100
Calculated BMI: 25.1

Diet: Lots of processed goods including fast food, buffets, pizza, candies but drink diet soda and water. If I were to guestimate my caloric intake, it would be close to 3-3.5k per day.

Exercise: I get equivalent of about 1 mile walk a day and also have toddlers, but have a cushy office job.

Wife tells me I look a little overweight, doctor said I need to lose 20lbs, what say Anandtech?

Edit: Will add pics tonight with shirt off. Be prepared to be dazzled.

Edit: Thanks Alone!

25 % bf is high, I'm 6' 235 and about 18% bf and I think I need to lose some weight. your heart rate and bp look ok though. Check the fatloss sticky it has a lot of good information on getting your diet straight and suggseted foods and such. Also if you're going to get into the gym make sure you're doing some sort of resistance training. I would suggest Strong lifts or Starting Strength but there are other options that I'm sure would work just as well depending on what exactly your goals are.

pics help tho

Are you happy with your health, body composition and fitness level? Do you have a desire to look different, have more energy, reduce disease risk later in life, perform better at sports, etc?

We can't determine anything from this, post a pic. I'm 6'1" and was 192 but 15 pounds overweight. Down to 180 now. That being said, many people are built to where that weight and height is just fine.

Yeah...pretty hard to tell from your description. Pics would definitely help if you want our opinion on whether your wife is correct. Did the doctor say what he was basing his opinion off of? The body fat %? That's the opinion I'd be more interested in as I assume he is making it based off of some health reason...not looks.

If you lose 20lb, you'll be right at my height/weight...I'll try to get a pic up for you in a bit.

well...based on the pics...Looks like you might actually have a little thickness to your back. I'm on a crappy monitor at work, so maybe that's an illusion. Otherwise, I'd work on improving everything.

Thickness as in fat?

As to what I want, I don't really have any goals. I don't care to bulk up nor do I care to look ripped. I just want to look "normal" without sacrificing too much in my selection of foods or my lack of activity. I don't want any aching joints nor do I want to injure myself but want to be able to play with my toddlers longer than 1 hour without getting tired.

I think 20lbs might be a good goal, but where do I lose that from? The fat around the tummy and the back?

Also, my general fitness level is poor (I think). I played some sand volleyball recently and was completely winded before the game ended on a 12 point game.

I tried some bench presses and can only bench around 115 lbs x 2 reps (don't laugh), I can do about 20 pushups in a row and do about 40 situps in a row. I couldn't figure out the squat machine so didn't try. I can curl about 35 lbs x 2 reps on my right arm and 30 lbs x 2 reps on my left arm. My legs feel about 2x stronger than my arms. I did the reverse curl on my legs and got up to 200lbs or so.

I'd think that by the pictures, you look "normal". Losing 20 lbs would make you look a lot better though. Goodluck

You look a bit pudgy, but not fat pudgy (if that make sense). In other words, you look healthy and normal but not like a body builder.

Updated with plan.

You don't look bad, but you do look a little soft. What are your goals here? Do you want to lose weight? Gain muscle? Just look better?

Don't get discouraged about the running part. Most people can't run a 7min mile on its own and you're doing it for 1.5mi. That's not bad. I would say not to keep running the same path/distance each day 'cause 1) it will get boring, and 2) you'll continually compare your times to previous times. You WILL get better, but sometimes you're gonna have some days that are worse than others. And in reference to the runner's high: that comes about mile 10, I've heard... so you've got a bit to go.
