If you use the Gold series, you MUST get the DFi Lan Party UT SLI / Ultra board
The RAM would need 3.3V for 250FSB and 2-2-2-5 operation, and the only motherboard in market support that is the DFI board

Anyway DFI's board is much bettewr than ASUS's in terms of overclockerbility and functionality

Platinum serie has looser timing and not as overclockerble.
But it doesn't require 3.3V of extreme voltage

Gold is absolute performer
But you would need the aforementioned motherboard to supply that voltage

Seriously, as MechBGon said - Programming is definately Disk/IO intensive. Your biggest bottleneck will be your harddrive. But then again, you're getting a raptor. If you're seriously a hardcore programmer, I'd get the SCSI drive (that's just me, I absolutely DETEST waiting a full 3 seconds for the 4000+ line program to compile - because I have a habit of compiling after ... (heh, don't laugh) every single change I make.)

-TPG

Right now I'm still finishing up my degree... I've programmed in numerous languages but I really enjoy C++ and C# in the .NET environment. Like I mentioned though, the programming will be secondary to gaming. And whenever I get a good job I may go the SCSI route.

BTW I won't laugh because I tend to recompile and/or save the project after every minor change as well... it's a good programming habit.

Well would I be able to get a mild OC out of the Platinum? I'm planning on a 400MHz OC... down the line I may decide to go higher though.

I already bought the 3520.... but I just saw that they don't sell it anymore, on Newegg at least.... the 3540 is the only one they carry now.

What's the absolute BEST gaming LCD then... in 17", or 19" if it's not too expensive. My limit is around $350-400.

Wait... you mean the Dells that supposedly have like a 25ms response time and are the subjects of about 8 different threads on this forum with people complaining about ghosting? Thanks for the help. :disgust:
