Finally got a 5850 from Newegg when it was briefly available yesterday, so I'm going to move forward with this build. Planning to use it for gaming as well as general use on my 1600x1200 LCD. I'd like to significantly OC the i7 920, so let me know if this setup is right for that.

Case: Thermaltake Armor (already own, using in current pc)
PSU: Antec BP550 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371016
Mobo: Not sure one this one. Newegg has this for $120 AR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813135243
CPU: i7 920 for $199 from Micro Center
HDD: Intel 80GB SSD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820167016
GPU: Radeon 5850 (already ordered)
RAM: OCZ Gold 6GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227365

If you plan on significantly overclocking you're going to need to invest in a good CPU cooler. Some suggestions for that might be the TRUE, Megahalem or Noctua seem to be popular ones that are suggested. Also I would look into ASUS or even ASROCK over the ECS motherboard.

From my experience ECS is horrible, but they do seem to be making better products nowadays. Still, I prefer to stay away from them for high-end builds.

And you didn't mention getting any kind of 3rd party HS/F. I hope you weren't planning on using the stock HS/F for your OCing adventure. And depending what you mean by "significantly OC," maybe you might want to consider water cooling, if you haven't already.

Getting an ECS is like shooting yourself in the foot. It might seem like a good idea at first, but you'll regret it in the long run.

I'd go Gigabyte if you want cheap, the UD3P is decent at overclocking.

Grab an eVGA 758-A1 if you want a lifetime warranty and top-notch support. And awesome overclocking too.

The eVGA is $250, that seems kind of spendy to me. The UD3P appears to be for older Intel sockets: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128358

The ASRock X58 might be a good option, not too expensive, recommended by Tom's Hardware and lots of positive reviews on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157163

In regards to CPU cooling, I'd prefer something that doesn't require me to purchase additional fans. I currently have a Zalman 7700-CU (I think) and was thinking of going with the Zalman CNPS10X Extreme
