Now that we have that behind us, here is why i want to know. The person who designed that site thinks that he is a graphics god (real quote), as do his friends. After seeing this site, i was really surprised. It stinks. I asked him to let me have a look at some of his other masterpieces, but he said that all the people he designed sites for went bankrupt and he has nothing left. When i criticized his site, this is what he said:

What i want to know is HOW can a person POSSIBLY be so amazingly STUPID? For real, i wanna know. What does it take? A hit to the head with a baseball bat? A few nasty falls from a bike as a kid? Severe radiation poisoning? Alien anal probe experiment gone horribly wrong? What?

Just throwing some random negative opinions out there... I have a strong dislike for animated gifs, and this site makes extensive use of them. Color clashes, ugly icons, tables that center in IE but not Mozilla.. A goofy icon that follows the mouse (in IE but not Mozilla).

Ok, it starts with horrible photoshop work,

Click on enterprise
then you get alot of black and yellow, not exactly easy on the eye, then there are the amount of bad and pointless gif animations, and that horrible counter.

Click on tunes
then you get something that looks alot better, but still in no way good. It just shines of badly used photoshop filters. Also the color selection isnt very good.

I also found screwing with my mouse a little disconcerting, but I forgave them since I guess they proved their point that they can do that and it went away on the next screen. But I hate losing control.

But, the biggest sin to me is: What the heck is PastMidnight - a band or a web design company? The "About" link is usually the first one I go to because I want to know the context of where the heck I am.

Upon entering you are forced to choose one of two things that you know nothing about. And why are you stuck in the Tunes section after you select it? None of the links would go back to the opening page so I had to go back to AT to relaunch it to see what the other section was.

I think the overdone design detracted from either providing information or entertainment. And nothing should flash or spin. I wanted to find out more about the band and listen to tunes but the sample section didn't work very well for me.

Excellent web design is one of the reasons I'm addicted to AT, and I'm amazed how so few other sites seem to "get it" that users aren't impressed with raunchy colors and animations but rather with good content and logical layout.

I like it for what it does.
Neat tools with good explainations of them.
Good function of the music page.
Displays good at different resolutions.
Good band really.


For what it looks like, don't have much to offer.
Black background with tough to read font colors speaks of a war*z legacy.
I like black backgrounds alot but with white and grey text.
I'd loose the border color on the bottom table.

I find it good, with a nice layout. On the bad side, there is way too much animated gifs action in there and a few poor selection in colors. The mouse pointer sun has got to go.

It is also a little confusing as to what the site is for. Is it for music or computer related services? Those should be split onto two seperate sites IMO.

A visible counter is never a good idea on a professional site, just include it in the code.

amen... i mean this is the type of site i would put up on ms's site if i was doing corporate sabotage for sun.

a commercial web site should let the customer know what the web site is about on the first page

style over substance? colors are distracting (garish), font size is to small, site appears overly "busy" and not clearly organized

a web site is a tool to accomplish a means - this site looks like a riced out car

simplify, modify, improve!!

i applaud the website coder for the effects they accomplished, but the site should be about the "product", not the site.

the sites i visit the most often (news site, anandtech) are fairly lowkey in their appearance, and use of bells and whistles. i come back to these sites over and over again because of the CONTENT, not the flash animations, rollover effects, javascripts......

I'd rate the site as bad.

Don't like the use of frames, don't like the black background, don't like the headings with the yellow backgrounds, don't like the tacky animated download gifs, don't like the colour scheme on the hyperlink rollovers (cyan - yuck!).

And before you say anything - I could do better myself

Bad color and graphics work. Code is ok, but kind of old style. This is average for a homepage-type site, bad for a professional site.
