RATM- Wake Up DIRECT RIP OFF of Led Zeppelin- Kashmir

Listen to both songs, RATM ripped off the guitar part from Led Zep so bad it it's sick!!!

Hey zippy,

I'm not surprised at all. A lot of the more recent bands are taking, very directly, music from older bands and playing it with their own sound. It's not that bad though a lot of cases... I don't like Lenny Kravitz' version of American Woman though, that's just horrible.

As long as the job is done well and the song is generally good, I have no problems with that being done.

RATM did a good job with it, I just thought that they would have at least changed it a bit- for example, Lenny Kravitz made American Woman a lil more 90sish, right?

Kashmir is one of the greatest rock songs ever. I have not heard this other song your talking about, but Kashmir has been redone before. Kashmir was redone by Puffy Coombs into a rock/rap jam that was the theme song for Godzilla a few years back.

yeah sorry if i came off bad.. but they didnt rip it... morello just said he loved that part or something ... and one day it just werked into a song however that sh it happens... but yeah.. its not like they re did the song.. they just took that progression.. that song just happens to be one of their best too...

classy, have you seen the matrix? If so, you have heard "Wake Up" by RATM- ya know the scene where Neo and Trinity enter that building and shoot everything up? Well, that is where the song is played.

BTW, Kashmir is a great song!

As a diehard Led Zeppelin fan, it irks me whenever someone rips them off. But, if they're up front about it and have the blessing of Jimmy Page, then so be it. However, RATM is still on my "is suck" list for other reasons.

 

Did Rage break up recently? I thought I heard something about it, didn't really look into it...

When Trinity and Neo shoot up the Lobby, its a custom mix of "Propellerheads - Spybreak" that plays. (I wish I could hunt this down... the version in the movie isn't the one on the CD. Bummer.)

"Wake Up" is played at the very ending of the movie, during the (crappy) ending, where Neo yacks at the AI a bit in a phone booth and then flies away.

And yes, it's the same riff, but both parties know, so its cool.
