Good for you. I don't care if it was a friend or not. They shouldn't be driving drunk. Doesn't matter how they get caught, as long as they do.

Simple. Cops park on the side of the road and if they see the person behind the drunk driver not making a call, they pull him over and fine him for non-reporting. If he does call the police, they pull him over for using his cell phone. Win-win!

If the guy is that obvious you have an obligation to phone it in. Don't feel bad. You did the right thing.

It's possible that a domestic battle might have been happening, it was a Pontiac mini-van
but I don't think so as when he/she got blue lighted he/she stopped in the middle of the passing
lane..

Well, you did the best with a bad situation. Here in CA, calling 911 from your cell is pretty damn useless. Don't know if they fixed it already, but a couple years ago, I called 911 because an elderly couple on a local road had an accident, and it went to a CHP switchboard and put me on hold for a long time. I ended up hanging up and just driving to the local PD which was a couple blocks away to tell them to go to the scene.

I wouldn't call that ratting. I'd call that reporting an asshat for putting other people's lives in danger. I hope the judge throws the book at him :|.

Was driving home tonight when I saw someone in front of me who was all over the road, swerving
back and forth and hitting the medium a few times. I called 911 from my cell and followed him till
the cops pulled him over. Hate doing this to someone but this guy/gal was going to get someone
or themselves hurt...

It's called a "median".

Thanks for trolling.
That isn't trolling, but you're welcome.

Well, there could actually have been a medium there, calling up the long lost spirits of the dead, or something...

I've made a few calls to the police when I see somebody going absolutely nuts. It stinks to have to do it, but you did the right thing.

good call.

i havent had to call the police, but i have had to change a few minds before they decided driving home wont be so hard.

and put it this way, if you left it and woke up the next morning to news of a young mum and her kid being run down and killed on the sidewalk you would be feeling a million times worse right now.

I did that a year or so ago, except it was a little old lady (well over 80 years old) who was alternating speeds between ~50-100 in a 70mph zone and basically driving right down the middle of the white line. They had pulled her over within 5 minutes of me calling (she was well ahead of me at this point, with her high speed) and I was amazed she had made it that far without driving off the side of the road.

But if it was some random person who you can clearly see is drunk, don't haev any.

Guilt aside, I'd rather have an angry friend(presuming he found out it was me) than a dead friend.

in some places, it is an offense if you don't report them.

Where I live we are required to report drunk drivers.

??? What do you mean it's an offense not to report drunk drivers? How would they enforce that?
its a bylaw here. Due to where I work, we are obligated to report any one that might be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. All the perp has to say is that they went there for something. The police in turn talk to us and we can be charged if we didn't report him.
