But our society doesn't, therefore people need to change.

Well, society isn't raising my kids. So they can take what they deem "acceptable" and shove it.

Sure, I believe in corporal punishment because I think it works and is a strong deterrent. The point of "whippings" isn't to do harm, but to prevent further bad behavior, and that does depend on the child.

So I agree that going overboard is clearly unacceptable...I don't need society to tell me that.

Society has to deal with your leavings long after you are done.

Some people need society to tell them that going overboard is unacceptable.

I pay a significant amount of taxes in MN, taxes that went to paying for their shiny new stadium and subsidizing, directly and/or indirectly, AP's salary. The teams don't want to be beholden to society, then get off the public dole.

And not "whipping" them can make them feel that they can get away with anything. Society has to deal with that, too.

But what I am saying is that its easy to look from a distance and tell people what they should or shouldn't do with their own kids. Once you personally deal with them, your views are likely to change.

There is really no right or wrong way to raise your kids, and discipline is a very, VERY important part of raising what will be productive adults.

I saw Budweiser is the latest to mouth off at the NFL for it's handling of these situations.

Budweiser.

A seller of alcohol.

Something that's involved in, I don't know, 90+% of domestic violence situations...

It's real bad when even alcohol sellers have the relative moral high-ground

We have another outstanding NFL citizen

PHOENIX — Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer broke his wife's nose when he head-butted her in the face after she bit his lip to stop his unwanted sexual advances during a July domestic dispute, police say.

Dwyer, 25, was arrested Wednesday at the team's training facility in Tempe before practice. Dwyer had been in the Cardinals' locker room during media access earlier Wednesday.

well, shit.

OK, how many days (hours?) before this supposed rash of violence is going to be linked (suggested) to TBI/concussions/etc?

You, like many others here, are getting overly emotional. Rice, in a drunken stupor, knocked his wife out cold. Peterson tried to discipline his child and went overboard. These two are candidates for "the most despicable persons of the year."? What about this guy?

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-29136753

Must be a racial thing...

http://www.bbc.com/news/business-29266609

Father of 5 outdone by grandfather of 6. He also did his daughter, too. But I guess killing 7 innocent people pales in comparison to a drunk couple fighting. And, oh, AP disciplining his children. I doubt that anyone here will feel impassioned enough to start a thread about it. The difference? They're not celebrities so money, time, and brain cells won't be wasted on how to prevent. But, anyway, let's go back to talking about how much of a "monster" and "animal" these NFL athletes are...

That is because a discussion involving those murders/suicide belong in P&N.

And that just took place (September 19, 2014). This thread was started on September 8, 2014.

so you're mad that this story isn't getting the coverage that you think it deserves, because your heroic wifebeater idols are all over the news?

You're scum.

Why so butthurt over something that does not concern you? Were you a vic? Are you? These men are not my heroes. My old man is my hero and he's never hit my mom. So, I don't know what it's like to be in these situations. What I do know is that it isn't fair to judge these men over one incident. Stop acting like a puss over this. It makes you look weak.

The news just came out, you dunderhead. You need medication.

Is that an offer?

Last time I checked, that guy didn't demand tax free status on top of the demands for the public to cough up hundreds of millions of tax dollars to fund their property (like new stadiums for the nfl).

Or here's the real kicker - that guy you link to is going to jail. The NFL league gets to actively prevent police from acting on these situations, sweep the incidents under the rug, continue paying the player mega millions every year...

Oh, you're right. I had no idea the players we're talking about in this thread were owners. Learn something new every day...

Yeah, money can help problems go away. But, again, that's not the case here. These guys are being villified in the media and charged by the relevant authorities...

Yeah, *NOTHING* to do with money.

Sure, nothing to do with money, at all. Not in the slightest.

Last time I checked, Ray Rice was not punished by the legal system.

Doesn't even have to be the particular subject of domestic abuse:
