Ray tracing is definitely the future and it opens up some fantastic gameplay opportunities too. One you go full on ray tracing it makes graphics programmers life easier too. It's still probably going to take two generations before it's completely viable but it's nice that we got the first iteration out already. Looking forward to seeing big three compete in ray tracing.

I agree but its not going to take 2 generations of gpu's, it will be more mainstream in the next year or so.

Minecraft video is very cool, tbh the fact that minecraft is so simple just shows off the lighting effects better and it has a huge impact - this is a building game after all where basically you build stuff to show it off to your friends, and your buildings look so much nicer with the better textures and lighting.

Ray tracing as of this moment is nothing more than a gimmick. it drains too much performance for the IQ it offers in current titles. I wish for better game mechanics rather than crippling my performance for some shinier reflections and brighter/more accurate lightning.

I believe game mechanics is more cpu and is controlled by game developers,it has nothing to do with Ray tracing.

it takes Dev hours to put into the game. rather than pay someone to make a useless graphics feature work you can pay someone to make the actual gameplay better.

He's choosing to sit on his source for safe keeping. You know you never want to out your special source for all the high tech stuff coming thru the pipeline.

There were sections with no ground shadows on those zombies or whatever they are, not impressive at all.

I played control for about an hour last night on my 2060 super. With all settings on max and RTX on medium, the game ran pretty smoothly at 1080p/60. Turning RTX to high was not unplayable, but the sacrifice in responsiveness wasn't worth it for me. The game is gorgeous.

I'd love to see some comparison videos of games optimized to hit 60fps with RTX on and off. For example, would Metro look better at 1080p with RTX on medium/high or at 1440p/4k with other IQ settings turned up?

I'm genuinely curious because the impression I get right now is that in order to enable RTX, too many other IQ compromises are required. But I'm willing to change my mind if that's not the case.

I'm sure that most benchmarks you sre seeing are using ultra settings, personally I use high settings and dont see much difference when I was gaming.
I wish someone would use high settings,with high retracing, I would think that 60fps are attainable at 1080p with ray tracing enabled not using ultra settings with even a gtx2060 super. Graphically I'm sure it's much nicer depending on the game this way and much faster.

That's true for some games but, for others, Ultra settings make a nice IQ difference.

DF will test Control RTX soon, it will blow your mind. RTX in this game is ESSENTIAL.

With out DLSS and if you can deactivate Motion Blur then yes the game is good. But you will need a $500-700 card for 1080p 60fps then.

I should have clarified. My monitor is 1080p/60. The game is running perfectly smooth for my tastes with medium rtx on. I don’t usually turn on Fraps or whatever unless I am fine tuning things for multiplayer stuff.

Dlss is hideous. I have no idea why it’s even an option for 1080p.

I see, I thought you could have 1080p 60fps at those settings.

DLSS is an option in order to increase the performance with RTX High setting.
But you get severely bad IQ that is getting even worse with motion blur.

Only mirror-like reflections on windows, glass and some shadows are noticeable, the rest looks similar... it's not worth it to sacrifice resolution and so much performance.

Is it only me, or, apart from slightly better reflections, I do not see a difference in lighting?

Ray Traced Minecraft looks way better in terms of lighting and shadows...
