Rayman Legends: The Best Game You're Not Playing

The platform game has been around for so long that it's easy to assume that the genre has run out of surprises. A showcase for the game designer's art and one of the greatest platform games of this - or any - year, Rayman Legends disproves that in glorious style. From its gorgeous visuals to its painstaking design to its abundant generosity, it shows once and for all that "hardcore gaming" is about style, flair and good, old-fashioned challenge - not how many pixels of brain matter you can spray across the screen.

10/10

In a word, this game is awesome. In two words, this game is freaking awesome.

Grab it for your Wii, grab it for your 360, grab it for your Vita, hell, grab it for your PC. Just so long as you get it. It's easily GOTY material.

I thought Origins was amazing too, just a beautiful game. This art style looks different and even more detailed though, very impressive.

I loved Origins, in fact I played it on Xbox and PS3. I played the demo for legends and knew I wanted it. Now I just have to wait for the damn thing to show up at my house. UPS needs to hurry.

Is Ubisoft still being DRM Nazi dickheads? I might check it out if not.

I checked the Steam page on my phone, and I don't see any mention of SecuROM or anything like that. However, you do have to register it with uPlay like all of their other games.

Yeah, it does require uPlay. Though these days that's not a particularly great hardship now that they have their act in gear (and it's still better than EA Origin!).

I would get it on vita if they didn't cut 25 whole levels out. I can't sit at the TV and play this game. It works better for me as a pick up and go game.

It seems developers continue to troll vita owners lol.

28 levels, specifically the Invasion levels (basically the game's hardest levels). The good news is that those are going to be patched in, though Ubisoft has yet to announce a date.

Which is stupid. Why couldn't they have them in on day one? I can't support this for that reason.

This is basically the only game I want for the WiiU right now. Anyone know how it measures up on the 360?

Its supposed to be good except the parts designed for the touch screen are not very elegantly done. Really the only big fault of the other versions I see mentioned.

Is this game different than Origins or like an extended version?

If I am not mistaken it is a little like Mario games. They all have the same basic premise but new levels and different enemies etc. I don't know about any plot in the games, I did play origins myself on vita.

Well it's a sequel. So in that sense it's still a Rayman platformer, with all the usual iteration on game mechanics you'd expect to find on their second shot at the matter. They did throw in a number of slightly reworked Origins levels as part of a compromise for the delay for multiplatform porting (this being mainly for the WiiU users since Origins wasn't on the WiiU), but outside of that it is its own game.

In other words, did you like Origins? If so, then here's more.

They still use Uplay but they ditched SecuROM a long time ago. Presumably after sales plummeted while piracy skyrocketed.

I might get this for Vita even though I haven't finished Origins yet. They've apparently added back the missing levels in a patch. I need to get a new memory card though.

I just noticed...this is only $40 for PC but they want $60 for PS3. It's the same game right? Are they just trying to entice PC buyers?

Unless it's an extremely high profile game (e.g. Splinter Cell), Ubisoft has been charging less for the PC versions of multiplatform games. They don't have to pay platform license fees, so they're basically passing on the savings rather than dealing with otherwise "touchy" PC gamers who aren't accustomed to paying $60.

To that end the PC isn't traditionally a hotbed for platformers, so the lower price certainly helps. Plus they're effectively "free" sales; it's not a resource intensive game, so they can get away with a quick & dirty 360 port with little trouble.

I'm having a blast with it on my Wii U. I actually enjoy the gamepad elements quite a bit - its very responsive. And it's TREMENDOUS fun if you have a friend, since you need to work together (one person uses touchpad, other uses a controller)

Haven't finished Origins yet but really liked it. Don't know if I want to get this for the vita again or the PC.

Anyone played this on the Vita and a console (not wiiU) how does it compare graphically and does it play better one way or the other?

I've played it on a Vita and a PC, if that's worth counting.

The PC/console versions are going to be better graphically due to their resolution. There haven't been any significant compromises made on the assets themselves (i.e. it's not noticeably overcompressed), but it won't have the same clarity of the consoles due to the qHD screen. Though it's still graphically one the best looking games out there.

The audio however is hit and miss. I feel that the audio tracks on the Vita have been overcompressed. Compare Castle Rock, for example. The PC version is CD quality; the Vita version sounds like it's 64Kbps AAC-LC. Given just how amazing the music is in spots, that's a let down. The audio bitrate basically needs to be twice as high, in my opinion.

Finally, as far as playability is concerned I have to admit I like the PC better than the Vita here. The touchscreen controls and the use of Murfy on the WiiU/Vita is very well thought out. But it's clear it was designed for multiplayer where someone could be the platformer and someone could be the manipulator. It's magic when doing that while it breaks down in singleplayer.

The PC/console versions put the player in control of platforming while the AI is in control of Murfy, however on the WiiU and Vita it's the other way around. As a result on the Vita you're jabbing at a 5" screen trying to control Murfy, while the AI may or may not be doing what you want for the platforming character (note that it's always Globox, I assume because he's the biggest and thereby most visible character). I am the kind of person who is here for the platforming, so to be ripped out of the platforming and made to play what feels like an iOS game is disappointing to say the least. So the PC version is much more enjoyable in that regard since I'm always platforming.

To be honest I'm holding out hope that they will use the Vita Invasion patch to work in the PC/console platforming option. Though it's admittedly a long shot.

Thanks, that's what I figured based on what I've heard around. Thinking of picking this up but didn't know what platform to go with. Probably PC now that you mention it.
