Great mouse but I have to wonder who these super high dpi readings are really helping. I am glad to know the potential of my mouse is getting more and more precise but I don't think anything above 1600 dpi has ever helped anyone.
*Shrug* It's all marketing as in bigger is better. I'm a fairly high DPI user, most people who use my mouse get frustrated because they always overshoot things. For the longest time I've had two 24" monitors and now I'm on two 27" so I need high DPI to go from one corner to another without lifting and repositioning my mouse a dozen times. However, I found that 1600-2000dpi is the sweet spot to do that. Any DPI higher than that and I have to turn down sensetivity. So it's all marketing, pure and simple. Doesn't mean it's a bad mouse since you can always run it at half sensetivity.
my g500 is exhibiting the left click squeek and it's driving me insane. fleshconsumed, if not the deathadder what other gaming mice do you recommend for FPS?
There was a time in my life when I've played semi-competetively. I never played in the tournaments, thank god, but I was good enough to be invited to various clans/competitions. I've tried a bunch of mice at the time trying to get competetive advantage, but to be honest I cannot really advise you anything except trying mice yourself. Most important is how mouse fits in
your hand and how you use it. I have had to give away Razer Lachesis because I simply couldn't get a comfortable grip. How you grip the mouse also affects how the cursor moves. Are you using your fingertips, are you gripping the entire mouse, or a combination in between? I bought Razer imperator and I have had to return it because one, the cursor always jumped when I lifted and repositioned the mouse, a known problem for that mouse, and because two, I could never get the cursor to move horizonally when I moved the mouse left to right, you see the most comfortable way for me to grip the Imperator was a little sideways/slanted, so obviously when I moved my mouse left to right the cursor moved up when I moved the mouse right and it moved down when I moved it left. I have tried the Logitech MX518 (I think) and G9v1. In the end I have not found a mouse that fits my hand better than deathadder. However, it will be different for different people.
So I really cannot recommend you a mouse. The only thing I can tell you about razer mice is that they do not last. I have had multiple Razer Diamondbacks, copperheads, deathadders, and they all "went out" with the same symptoms. To be truthful they did not die, they just because gross to the point where I felt I needed a new mouse. All of them felt really warm to the touch after long gaming sessions, most likely because razer insists on the blingy LEDs and the additional heat from those LEDs contributed to the heat build up. Disabling those LEDs improved the temperature significantly, however that requires installing the drivers and with the recent Razer drivers moving setting to the "cloud" and having really loose privacy policy I would never install them (but that's another issue). All of them without fail showed rubber coating disintegration after 1.5-2 years. The Diamondbacks and Copperheads had semi-transparent silicone gasket between top and bottom half of the mouse to help with the grip, that gasket was also lit up by the LEDs for added bling, well, in all of my Diamondbacks and Copperheads that silicone gasket started to "melt" after a year or so of use - it became sticky every time I touched it, I have to presume it was from the extra heat that LEDs were putting out. All of my razer mice without a single exception had scroll wheel loosen up after 6 months to a year. So... basically in my opinion razer build quality is crap. I basically have to buy a new mouse every two years. The only reason I put up with it is because as I said deathadder fits my hand the best. That's the only reason. If I could find another mouse that a) would not jump when I lift it b) did not move the cursor up or down when I panned the mouse and c) was just as comfortable, I would switch in a heartbeat. Until then I'll keep buying new deathadders. However, I would wait for a better deal than this.
Back to your original question, you'll just have to go to your local computer stores and try a couple of them yourself. Buy the ones that you like best, try them out at home, and return the rest.
