Razer Diamondback Mouse software won't install

I've got a new Razer Diamondback mouse and I can't get the software (or mouse??) to work. I have tried to install in any number of ways, but I keep getting a "Failed" message during the software installation, right after it says to click "YES" to allow unsigned drivers, but then it finishes up and says the software installed properly. Arghhhhhhhhh

When I go to Device Manager all I see is "HID Compliant Mouse" with Windows drivers. I do not see the "Razer Diamond HID".

There seems to be no working support area at the Razer Home page and I can find no troubleshooting info on the install disc help files.

Should I try to install the software in "Safe Mode"? Does Windows XP Professional even have a Safe Mode?

This is very frustrating. Can anyone help me? Thanks

Funny, that's exactly what he did instead of joining in on the Logitech circle jerk.

I love my mx510, Razer has ALWAYS produced piss poor products that fueled of nerd gamer fanboy hype.

Whatever, the 510 is a steaming pile compared to the Diamondback...for that matter I prefered the Viper to any of the MX line. I suppose you can hold out for the 518, but even then it only matches the specs of the DB and the Boomslang 2 is rumored to be in the pipeline. Razer has had the best gaming mice going on five years now, I'll be the first to admit they have had some quality control issues (I had more than one Boomslang that was flaky and needing some tweaking to work correctly), but to say they haven't been producing the best performing gaming mice would be false.

I have both an MX and a DB, and I have to say that the DB is much better for games. I'm not at the point where I can pick out which mouse has better tracking, but the razer feels so smooth at high speeds at high res, and so far I've needed a lot less correction with it. Besides that, the DB has better reaction time for me, whereas the MX feels sluggish and bulky.

I kill my hand using the DB, so I use the MX for browsing and RTS/RPGs, but for FPS's the DB wins.

Logitech makes good mice
Razer makes the BEST mice. Best Buy sells Razer so there's no excuse why anyone should buy Logitech. I'm not a fanboy, but nobody in their right mind who've used both brands will say Logitech has anything on Razer

Well, I finally got the Razer DB working, after modifying the .inf file. I must say, the mouse is incredibly smooth. I noticed it right away.

However, it is also incredibly uncomfortable. Plus, Razer tech support said that the .inf workaround would probably disable the button assignment function (which it did), so now I cannot use the buttons. That doesn't matter as the buttons are in the WORST possible locations anyway, but it still ticks me off. Razer's tech support page does not work, plus the "update" link in the software just goes to a dead link.

It's too bad, but the smoothest mouse I have ever had is getting returned. I'll keep using the MX700 for now.

LOL, great response to a less than needed reply!

I've had the 510 for roughly a year and recently purchased the Diamondback. Hands down, the Razer is far superior in terms of gaming. If you alternate between the two of them, the Razer is noticeabley faster and more responsive.

As someone else noted, the 510 feels like a whale and is sluggish.....I'm not saying it isn't accurate, it weighs more and feels more like a brick because of it's ergonomics, etc.

I actually really like the "old school" feel of the Diamondback. The left side buttons are useless to me as they are placed poorly, but everything else is fantastic.

The included software with it's on the fly changes is a great touch also.

I kinda have to agree with you, I do not like the DB's ergonomics. Both the Viper and the Boomslang were far superior (to me) in this respect. Having said that, I don't care for the Logitech either (for that matter any "hand molded" mouse for gaming as it tends to make you aim with your hand/arm instead of your fingers). I'll probably get used to it, but would far prefer these internals stuffed into a Boomslang shell.
