That is all true, in theory. However, given the hyper-partisan atmosphere we're in, I'm not sure if it's going to have that effect. In the past two weeks, we've had one news story where Trump is referring to US soldiers as "suckers and losers" and another where he admits on tape that he intentionally "downplayed" COVID. Polling has narrowed about 1 point in his favor during that time...

I hope you're right but have my doubts.

Understood. I have to have some hope that even in these partisan times that the majority takes back what is theirs. Many are numb to the constant items on tRump, but this is different. It is something that can motivate people to do something they have not before, vote. I will be interested in seeing the polls in early October.

That's not what happened with FDR. His threat to expand the court induced the justices to endorse the Wagner Act rather than have that happen. Congress & the Executive together have the constitutional power to determine the number of justices, which has varied at points in the past. If they decree 11 members there will be 11 members. They could even reduce the number & achieve it by natural attrition. That's very much settled law.
Yeah, I already pointed out that the 'analysis' I watched on CNN was bogus. Too bad term limits for justices requires a constitutional amendment, I'd prefer term limits to court stacking.

The problem with term limits is that it makes it easier to bribe judges as they would have post-Supreme Court careers to think about. The Wisconsin Supreme Court shows what limited terms do to a court.

Perhaps the voters are a little more pliable in relation to Senators than they are to Trump. In which case, I suppose a rushed confirmation could hurt the GOP Senate candidates in November. Which is almost as critical as getting rid of Trump. That's about as optimistic as I can be about it right now.

Ruth Bader Ginsberg fought the ravages of cancer for years and years, and finally succumbed at the age of 87.

Physically, there wasn't that much of her left.

Let's take a second to remember her in her full womanly bloom, for along with her fierce intellect and her indomitable will, she was BEAUTIFUL inside and out.

I begrudgingly agree, the GOP, supposedly the party with it's finger on the pulse of anything involving the US military
would not be incensed at the knowledge of what Dump said is stupifing. Shit, for the COVID incident he's on tape
admitting to playing it down, didn't matter. if the Rep's found out he was having sex with a 14 yr old last week they'd let him slide.

Trump said at his rally in NC tonight that paraphrasing: "Maybe we should get some T-Shirts made up with "Fill That Seat" "
Great of him to wait 24 hours to politicize her death.

Yet still worked out with personal training and worked the SCOTUS in full. She was a human with a shitload of fight in her.

I checked a few sources. The constitution does not specify "lifetime appointments"

There's something desperately wrong when the President lures his supporters to attend potential superspreader events, also known as rallies. It's completely insane, but here we are, witnessing what really is depraved indifference for human life.

Hey guys, Lindsay Graham is totally not going to turn into the ultimate hypocrite, right? I mean, he was pretty clear where he stood:

“Use my words against me. If there’s a Republican President in 2016 and a vacancy occurs in the last year of the first term, you can say, ‘Lindsay Graham said let’s let the next President, whomever it might be, make that nomination’ and you could USE MY WORDS AGAINST ME and you’d be absolutely right”

There’s no way he’d walk that back, right. Right???

“B-B-But Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer and KAVANAUGH was treated so unfairly!”

The guy is feckless. If it wasn't for the starch in his shirt, he'd collapse on himself due to the lack of a spine.

Wake up & smell the coffee, people. McConnell will confirm a Trump pick either before or after the election because he has the power to do so, and that's that. Cornholio! What it means is that Dems need to take it all & expand the court by at least 2 members. Or just bite the pillow.

That was our original sin as a nation. Letting Presidents like Clinton and Obama get term limited out.

that's not an original sin. POTUS term limits were only established after FDR. The 2 year "limit" only ever existed as deference to Washington, kinda like how there will never be a Peter II as Pope.

I now agree they should pack the courts. If ginsburg gets replaced, I would add 3 justices in total, 2 to replace the stolen (garland, ginsburg), and one for good measure.

Are you saying we shouldn't have POTUS term limits?

I like the idea of no more than 2 consecutive terms, then after that...can run again? Thing is, as few humans as there are insane enough to run for POTUS and want that job, there are probably even fewer that want to do it for more than 2 terms.

read between the lines: all he said is that you can use his words against him. Never said he won't go against what he said, anyway.

I mean, sure - I guess we can talk about that... But as far as doing away with term limits just sounds like a recipe for some Putin.

It's important to have an odd number. We have to win everything to keep from being totally screwed on this & many other fronts.

You guys suck at math.

Trump now has 6 justices while dems have 3.

So need 4 more just to have a stalemate of 6-6. Actually need 5 more for 7-6 majority.

And if Sotomayor croaks.. need 7 more for a 8-7 majority.

Adding 2 seats does NOTHING. You'll get overruled 6-5 (instead of 6-3 current) on everything.

No, you suck at math.
4+3 =6?
5+3=7?

Plus.
The menaces 6 isn't in the bag yet.

5 conservatives + 1 = 6
Only 3 liberals on bench atm (breyer, sotomayor and kagan)

That's why I said if you want to win 7-6 you have to pack the current 3 with 4 more.

And also there is really no way that Trump and the GOP misses that slam dunk of 6 justice unless there's divine intervention and 7 GOP senators get hit by lightning and can't vote for the next 4 months.

What worries me most is with 6 justices.. Trump appeals his loss to SCOTUS. What then? Even with John Roberts siding with the 3 pragmatists.. the 5 others would overrule him 5-4.
