That is cool as hell. Those nitro cars are way too much of a headache for me. I had an HPI Savage that was 1/8. the damn thing was always breaking. It was powerful though, I could hammer it on my grass and it would flip over backwards

From what I could hear, those were all electrics. Totally the way to go, imo.

Why drift when you can actually RACE?!

I've got a TLR 22 that I absolutely love.

It'd be nice if they actually showed a single scene for more than 0.7 seconds, before constantly cutting to another one.

Yeah those happen to be electrics RC's. There is no hole in the roof for a nitro heatsink. Typically you would also see a hole in the windshield in the front and back for additional cooling.

The track looks very impressive.

I agree. Got a E Revo, and 4x4 Slash Plat, along with a mini E Revo. Love me some racing.

Drifting? Cool, but I couldnt do that all the time. Jumping 10ft jumps is where its at.

Clean brushless electric power > messy nitro any day. I've had both and the only thing nitro has over electric is the noise.

I can't stand nitro. It's creates an absolute mess and it's toxic as hell. Between the toxins you touch and breathe, the deafening noise, and the caked on crap everywhere, I'll take brushless any day of the week.

and if you wanted to run for more than 5 minutes, nitro was your only choice.

5 mins is exaggerated.

It also doesnt matter, this isnt a few years ago, this is now. And batteries are clearly the way to go.

what's the typical cost to get into this hobby?

Depends on what you want to do. Street race, off road, what scale, what type of batteries you want. The most popular is SCT. Short course trucks. Such as the one linked above. They can take a ton of abuse, and with the right batteries, can go upwards of 60mph. You can lower the suspension and race on the road, with road tires. Or put dirt tires on, and race a dirt track.

Be warned, if you decide to dabble, you will get sucked in. You'll want this, then that, etc.

Here is a video of my E revo doing a flip last week. Nothing fancy. Was out of town for a friends wedding and brought my toys along. Found some wood, and a cinder block to make a ramp. You can control the vehicle in the air. Give it throttle and it will bring the nose up, brake and it will send the nose down. This was about 1/3 speed. I cannot punch the throttle or it will come up on the back wheels unless Im already going 40mph or more. Wayyyy too much power.

I didnt edit, sorry.

the industry has shifted towards RTR (ready to run) which in the past was strictly low-grade toys, but i find little value in that. even without upgrading, you will certainly need to invest in time, tools and spare parts. a pre-assembled car just means you didn't gain the experience of building it the first time.

at a minimum, you'll need a good charger and several battery packs. things like tires and ball joints will wear out / break constantly. then you'll want to upgrade the radio, and so on.

back in the day, this was the monthly bible:

this is a good site to browse and get a feel for things, even if you buy elsewhere (kinda like newegg):

Nitro vs. electric is all personal preference. Pros & cons to both. I own/race/bash both types and it all depends on what I feel like doing.

1) 5 minutes is not an exaggeration. that's all you would get out of a pack of ni-cads before they took a dump around 5 and a half minutes, and that's why sanctioned races were 5 minutes long.

2) i don't even know why you're trying to pick a fight with me.
