1) 5 minutes is not an exaggeration. that's all you would get out of a pack of ni-cads before they took a dump around 5 and a half minutes, and that's why sanctioned races were 5 minutes long.

2) i don't even know why you're trying to pick a fight with me.

Ni-cads? Who runs nicads anymore? When I was playing with these 5 years ago, it was 3000mah nimhs. I'm sure there have been improvements since then. LiPo is nifty as well.

Damn, I remember how much a good charger and a bunch of different sets of batteries costs now.

Thats only for racing. For bashing you could do 15. I did it all the time. You can still do it. You dont have to run lipos on all vehicles. My boys car gets 15 mins easy.

Im not picking a fight. Someone stated some facts, and you came in claiming electric has only been as good as it has for a few years. What does it matter? It is that way now. End of story.

ha, i remember 6-cell ni-cads with a mechanical speed control. no end to the suckage there! now there's 2-way digital radios (no crystals to swap), telemetry, abs, traction control, dynamic stability, steering and throttle/braking mapping, you name it.

Dude, if you're talking about NiCd's, then you're not even talking a few years ago, you're talking a DECADE+ ago. I've been in an out of the hobby since I was 14, and even with the most budget-minded of NiCd packs 20 years ago, you would get more than 5 mins.

These days with Lipo's (which can be had for dirt cheap) you can charge a 4 or 5 5000mah packs at 5C (10A) the night before and race the whole damn day without even bringing a charger to the track. If you don't want 5 packs, you bring your charger and can still slam a pack in no time flat.

The only disadvantage I see these days with electric is if you want to run 1/8th scale. The brushless 1/8th ESCs aren't quite up to the task yet unless you invest in a very high-end one like Tekin's 1/8 ESC.

For me it's always been at 1/10th 2WD electric, though. Those are the most difficult suckers to drive and competition is fierce... LOVE IT!!!

You're right, but again, that was TWO DECADES AGO. Mechanical speed controls? Half this forum wasn't even born yet when those were being used (but yes, they sucked ass - my first gold tub RC10 had one of those ... got a paper route just so I could afford an electronic ESC).

i'm simply stating how it used to be and how far they've come, and for that i get an extra large ration of shit. well, you can take your radio control cars and shove them up your ass sideways. see if i help you pricks again.

You don't need to be so butthurt, man. You exaggerated and your statements were clarified by others. You need thicker skin.

I have not done ground RC in quite some time but I remember my XXX-T or TC3 running on NiMH didn't get much more than 5min in races so TBD is not too far off. LiPO changed all that but I still prefer Nitro's. My airplane and 600 size Heli are both Nitro. I do have the electric mCPx though. I will likely be one of the last ones to let go of Nitro helicopters though as I just love the smell, the smoke and the sound.

Dood, I hear you. My nitro Raptor 50 is one heli that is ALWAYS with me when flying. My e-helis are fun for their instant power etc, but I love that smell and sound of a big nitro heli.

I don't like e-buggies and truggies for the same reason. That whiny little girl gear sound they make just aint right. But I race some 1/8 e-buggy and truggy owners and damn they gots tha powah! - instantly.

But while they're a chargin', I'm a runnin'. Fuel and go man.

My big heli is a Raptor 50 also. I love that bird. Just something about the way the raptors fly.

I've been out of RC stuff for 15+ years, the old NiCd battery electrics sucked. 5 minutes was about it, and they were useless on anything other than a relative smooth surface (ie. asphalt or packed dirt) - going through grass would net you walking speed at best even with the trucks.
