RC1 Start Menu Question from XP User

Random question from an XP user.

I mostly like RC1. I was able to customize the UI enough to be mostly satisfied with it, except for one setting...

In XP, when you navigate the Start menu folders, the different folders cascade from left to right. Example: Start > Programs > System Tools > Backup. You know the drill.

In RC1, each folder overlaps the previous, and you have to use a 'back' button to backtrack. I find this annoying actually. I prefer XP's workflow. Is there a setting where I can make the folders function like XP?

Once I go into 'all programs' they dont overlap, it works as a tree....

Yeah, they should be cascading as a tree, unless you're talking about sub menus spawning off of program groups like XP did instead of showing the structure contained within the single start menu frame like Vista and Windows 7 do.

Thanks. Yeah, what I am looking for is a way to make all of the folders work like the "Getting Started" folder does... When you select it, the width of the window expands to show the subfolders inside. This is basically how XP's Start Menu worked.

I'd rather work this way rather than using a tree or forward/back buttons. Is there a way to get All Programs to work like Getting Started?

I don't think there is a way to get that behavior.

If you know what you're looking for, try typing it in the start menu search box.. it is faster anyway

Personally I don't have a problem with the new Start menu - anything I use very often is going to be on the taskbar anyway. But. . . a Start menu interface that is more trouble than moving your hand off the mouse and typing is an epic fail.
