I just started in the D2OL project.. its rather interesting. Man this stuff sure heats up the processor though.

Yeah, kinda miss RC5-64. Had intended on assimilating an additional 6000 MHz of PIII power with the herd too.

TotalHavoc & others

Instead of letting your fleets of rigs go idle how about joining another DC project? ,my preference is to SETI where we are likely to get passed by BBR (another forum group) soon.As well as doing The ultimate search
There are plenty of others too ,also linked in my sig.

I have to second that recommendation! After being a RC5 user for many many many many many many many years, I converted all my PC's to SETI because of all the other applications I can run to montior my performance and stats. SETIQ for proxy, SETI Spy for wu monitoring, heck download the GUI and watch the eye candy for yourself (we don't recommend it because the wu takes alot longer do finish, but hey WE NEED YOUR HELP!!)

BBR is on our heals with just a few 10 thousand wu's behind! Please help us stay ahead of them and donate your cycles to SETI.

Ok, I'll get off my soap box and get back to work... I'm using too many CPU cycles typing this message. :Q (My .02 - no flaming please. )

Greetings, friends!
I am new to AnandTech forums; in fact this is the first time I post a message here.
I want to congratulate your team with the second place in RC5-64 project; well done indeed!
As to me, I was counting more than 400 days for HZTeam (United Power of Russia etc.).
We were trying hard to catch you up for the second place contest, but you were tough enough to maintain it.
Now the project is finally over and my CPU is currently having rest. ;-)
And I am reading your discussions here.
Well, thanks for the attention.

Kind regards,
Kirillov.

Hi there Kirillov

Welcome to the TA forums and Hi to all the HZ people.

That was an amazing performance to come up through the ranks like that. You guys really got it together and it was quite interesting to see if you could pull off the passing manouvre before the project ended. The result is firm now and congratulations on the third place. Well done!

Greetings Dantoo and Joseph Osiecki!

Thanks for the warm welcome to your forums.
We do not have such a great infrastructure of discussions in the Russian segment of the net.

One question considering OGR-24 and OGR-25 projects.
After RC5-64 had finished, my computer started to count OGR-25 after some rest. ;-)
9) Load-work precedence ==> OGR,RC5=0,CSC=0,DES=0
But how is it possible to configure the client to start counting OGR-24, but not 25?
Thanks for your attention.

Kind regards,
Kirillov.

To the client OGR-24 and OGR-25 are the same contest. In other words, there is no way to tell the client to do one and not the other. It will do whichever one comes from DNet.

Joe O, thanks for the explanation.
But if OGR-24 and 24 do belong to the same contest, why do they have their own statistics pages on dnet site?
And what is the average amount of Gnodes to be counted to finish one packet of OGR-25, for example?
I have finished two packets already: 54 and 266 Gnodes per each.
For the third one I currently have the following:
[Oct 01 15:44:24 UTC] #1: OGR:25/2-8-6-5-7-23+31-33-3-45 [141,268,643,894]
How can I prognose the finish of the packet if it is possible, of cousre?
Thanks for your attention.

Kind regards,
Kirillov.

I think that Dnet did give a reason for keeping the stats separate, but I don't remember it. Note that there could be an OGR-26 contest as well. The client handles it and there was a sighting once.

As far as the size of stubs, they can vary widely as you have seen. We have a thread in the archives that listed some of the largest and smallest stubs.

We did compute the average once or twice, but again I don't remember what it was. Somewhere around 115 GNodes, I think. As far as I know, no one has come up with a means of predicting the size of a stub. There were a few attempts in the previous OGR computations (before DNet was involved) to predict the sizes of stubs, but they varied widely in their accuracy.

Thanks for the link to the discussion of OGR-26 - that is rather interesting; do we expect exponential growth of computational time in this case comparing with OGR-25? It is not said in that forum how much time had it taken to finish an OGR-26 packet.
Also thanks about the information about the size of OGR-25 packets.
Maybe it will be possible to discover some statistics rules of counting times; but in this case a lot of numbers must be analysed.

Well, I just got back from a trip to find out it is finally over.. so yes, I am still around.

I will investigate the group of PC's that had the client installed in the image and make a new one in the next day or so. I guess I can set them to start on OGR now that RC5 is all done.

I suppose someone is going to report an "SD" sighting now too.

just a small quote from the RC5 list:
we're still receiving work from clients working on DES and RC5-56
Can't find out who posted it tho... but it must be from the dnet staff.
I was crunching only 760 days... but anyway, still don't have a clue what to do next. OGR seems to be a waste because no one seems to know if the work makes sense at all (the clients might be buggy). RC5-72... booooooring. It seems to be proven that RC5-64 is rather safe considering how much work had to be done... as 72 is 256 times harder... Oh... and NO, I won't join Seti

You could always join DDOL or DF. They are both worthy projects that are working towards goals that would directly benefit all human life.

BTW it sort of looks like a reunion of The Old Republic in here somethimes. We could always use your help also.

I personally like ECCp.... I liken it to a miniaturized RC5, where its much easier to climb up the ranks and dominate

What other "finite" DC projects are out there? With projects like SETI and UD, etc. I imagine they're all going to be going for quite a while without completion. With RC5 and ECCp there's a definite "answer" which makes it fun to race for the finish. Are there other projects out there like that? (F@H maybe?)
