RC5 crackbox give away!

I'm giving a Celeron at 550 box with 128MB ram, running 24/7 to the RC5 team. Why, you ask?

• Because the POLL was in favor of my joining RC5.
• because of THIS :Q
• because I am into SETI now and am not ready to get into RC5 myself

How does it work? The box comes online saturday, by sunday it should be cracking RC5 for the winner.

HOW do I win? convince me in 25 words or less that you should

This is a win98 rig, and I may ask for help in getting it optimised. I am into SETI, so you may have to monitor production.

You both share the same eclectic tastes in DC projects, and he is an integral part of TA in more ways than one. By far not a cracking powerhouse, he participates in various TA projects with a mind on efficiency. The Celery is a fine RC5 (or OGR) cracker, and that is a very efficient use of that machine.

I would like to see Ken get the benefit of your kind offer.

Seriously, I'd just look at the stats and find the lowest producing TA RC5'er and give them
the gift of a lifetime. Or just go with viztech's recommendation.

Well, my intent here is to help the SETI team out, and have a little fun here. The computer is now online, it took me awhile to figure out that I had a bad NIC in there. I spent forever putting new ends on all my cables, reinstalling TCP/IP and checking my settings, pulling my hair out. (good thing I have lot's of it ) The funny thing is, the lights on the NIC were coming on, but it was collision city down at the hub . Damn, I hate when that happens....I finally switched the NIC, and everything is good.

I didn't know the the TA_SETI had a team, that's a good idea.

So, I read somewhere here that the Celerons were pretty good at SETI, and the Athlons were better at RC5. Would it make sense to put the celeron on SETI and put my Athlon 700 on RC5 cracking for TA_SETI?

Orange Kid, king of SETI for a day? Do I get concubines? If so, count me in!
Also, I'd like to say that your webpage has been very helpful to me. Some nice links there.

It's very hard to compare the efficiencies of various machines on SETI generically, because so many different things affect its performance. You'd almost need to know the speed of every possible machine at SETI to get anywhere.

Fortunately, in this case, there are only two possible machines, so that can be done. If you give me the time each machine takes to complete an average (e.g. the same angle range) WU, I can tell you which is better at which.

BTW, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Viztech for his kind recommendation of me. I wanted to say something earlier, but I figured if I actively tried to win this, I'd just wind up with a mouthful of foot.
