RC5 keyrate goes down, why?

It start at about 1.4 Mkeys/sec and usually stays there. But after a few days, it goes down to a crawl 56 kkeys/sec with no new task runnig, just the same tasks as when the computer started. Is this caused by system resources or what?

After rebooting, it goes back up to normal. All computers are network together and it seems only 1 did not slow down. I have various OS mix in the network, Win2K, Win98SE, & WinNT4. They all share the same buffer from the Win98SE machine. Anyone have the same experience?

which OS didn't slow down?

I know win9x sucks. My comp gets laggy after only about a week (win98). I think memory leaks might have something to do with it...even though RC5 doesn't use much memory.

Only one of the Win2k Server didn't slow down this time. But I remember, sometime ago, after scanning & running Photoshop, I noticed that the keyrate stayed down until it was rebooted. The thing is that task manager still show 99 percent cpu time for RC5DES.EXE when it was only completing blocks at about 600 kkeys/sec.

IsOs, This may sound like a dumb question but, are you running any kind of screen saver? They have been known to choke the client to death, especially if it's one of the OpenGL ones. Just a thought.

Also, check any power saving features. They have been known to choke off the client's air supply...

No screensaver, no power saving feature turn on. Computers are up most of the time. The slowdown does not occur everytime. I think 2 or 3 times in the last 3 months. Most computers has 128MR others have more. Last time they slowdown was probably yesterday. Not too sure when since I rebooted without really analyzing the screen display. I simply rebooted the affected machines and the keyrate are back up since the last reboot.

None of the machines lock up or generated errors.

So no one ever have the same problem?

I have had it happen a couple of times my self. I have never taken the time to try to find out the problem though. Like you said... a quick reboot and things are back to normal.

I tried stopping the client and restarting the client once but if I remember right that did not help things out.

You mention that RC5DES is getting all the cpu time. Is it safe to assume that you are using an older client? If so, does the problem still occur on the new clients?

Since I share buffers. I never tried the newer client. Besides the newer client didn't offer any speed advantage. I stayed with 2.7105.432.

The last time I tried a newer client than this version, the output was a bit lower than my normal block production so I reverted. How is the newer client. It's a pain upgrading the client so unless there are speed advantage, I would probably not upgrade.
