RC5 - What will happen first?

Here's one gent who thinks the key was lost in a corrupted packet. :Q

I'm gonna be laughing my head off if they actually get to 100% with no key found!

1) I'll hit 10 Million completed work units.
2) The winning key will be found.
3) After shutting off all but two of the ten machines in my basement, my power bill will drop dramatically.
4) The FS/FT forums will be flooded with computers for sale.

I sure hope #2 doesn't come before #1.

No way TA will drop to third place. If things get too close, I'll comeback to the team (I'm down to one machine doing OGR/RC5) I have a feeling that #2 will happen before#3

or the key will be found but since DNET doesnt know a thing about computers and servers.......they will lose the data on who found the key and what the key was causing them to restart the whole thing. At that time they should pay every rc5er $10 for everyday the stats server was down!



Does anyone know if there going to fix there stats page? I just love not being able to see numbers in front on the KKeys/sec done for a certain day...

Naa, they can't do that. They will have to release the key they used, along with the message, and it won't take very long for someone to figure out that the key doesn't properly generate a real message from RSA...

If it reaches 100% and no key is found I will be laughing my head off for two reasons:

1) Hahaha, all those review sites recommending to use RC5 as a good overclock test tool without giving a real thought to system integrity - ooohhhhh it can crunch number when overclocked by 150MHz so it must be stable and accurate........ yeah, just keep believing that, I'm sure the force is strong with you.

2) It will have done a great deal to prove that 64-bit encryption is safe from a distributed brute force attack (which is the complete opposite to what the original intention was) until quantum computers become mainstream in..... ooohhh say 100 years........

And here's another question - what will become of Dnet once the key is found? Will they actually start up a new project, move on to RC5-32/12/9, or simply fold since nobody seems to be home anyway?

They still have OGR.. I believe they tried distributed chess project many moons ago, but it got shot down. Perhaps they try it again or something.
