RC5, Win2K and dial-up detection

Hi, I am having a little problem getting the RC5 client to auto-update it's buffers. I am using Win2K SP1 with a cable modem and the Zone Alarm Firewall. No matter what interface I set the client to watch, it still won't auto update. It is a bit of a pain as I can be away from my system for long periods. I have set the client to get 24hrs worth of work, but I would prefer it if it can fetch/flush without my intervention. It will update without a problem manually.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Some people also get that problem when on dsl with a Firewall. I am on dialup and ZoneAlarm causes no problem for me. If you wish to have to manually update less often, you can simply increase the size of your buffer to run less of a risk to crack random.

Simply right-click on your systray cow and choose 'restore'. Right-click on the client window and choose 'configure'. Enter '2' for Buffer and Buffer updates option. Enter '13' for Fetch work threshold. Backspace your New Setting and write instead RC5=6000,OGR=0 . Press enter. Enter '0'. Enter '0'. That should give you 5-6 days work of blocks in your buffer before you start crunching randoms. Means that you need to manually update less often and simply make bigger flushes. You can use 10,000 instead of 6,000 if you wish to update only once every 8-9 days.

I suppose it is no great problem to manually flush. I am just lazy and would prefer it auto

I dunno how to help you with that. So My suggestion is for if there is no obvious solution to your problem.

Ummmm, cable modems do not use dial up detection at all. Set that option to 0 for normal networking mode.

You might try that and post the contents of your dnetc.ini file here if you have further trouble.
