RCA Lyra RD2780 vs iPod?

I don't know anything about mp3, I don't even know where to download them.
Yet, I just have to get one for the gift.

If I can only spend around $300, which one should I get?
(brief explaination will be appreciated)

RCA=Real crappy appliances....generally. I woud either go with a Creative Zen Micro or an ipod

It's one of those things, you will never reliaze how nice an ipod is until you try it. The ipod is build with quality and style. The feel and function is hard press to match.

I personally would go with the IPOD. I like the touch wheel not the newer click wheel .. .

I have a lyra and it sucks. You have to use musicmatch and it doesn't work well in linux.

The ipod and Zen are worlds better.

BTW, the lyra was a gift from the wife which is why I still have it and am struck with it
