RD Gateway connection

Hi guys, noob here (english is not my first language, sorry)! I would like to establish a remote connection using RD app for Windows Phone 8.1 through gateway. Thing is, I would like to build this with my home PC being a host (server?). Question: is it possible to connect through gateway (thus more secure connection) with my Windows 8.1 Pro PC? I'm asking this because everywhere I read about gateway connections, articles are always about Windows Server 2012 and so on. Should I install a freeware server software to make my machine become a gateway server (SSL + standard RD)?

RD Gateway is only available on Server 2008 and higher. You can use it to connect to a Windows desktop, but the RD Gateway server component still needs to run on a server.

Thank you, drebo! Could you please suggest me what would be a good substitute? TeamViewer (downside would be the virtual server?)? Microsoft's RD itself through the default router port (good password/ or changing port)? Anything else? I would like that to be accessible from outside my LAN, of course! Thanks in advance!!

maybe build a parallel network (layer) besides my LAN just for security (between the port and PC for having one more authentication)? I have read some good references on this. Anyway, nothing serious, I would just like to build this for fun, music streaming e.g. Also, I would like to use the wake up feature one can setup at BIOS (?). Keeping the PC "offline" would be a very secure measure... I read.

You can hack windows 8 to allow remoteapps using enterprise license. Windows 7 enterprise as well! google-fu is your friend!

This is not using RD gateway but a direct remote-app connection using RDP!

I'm not as familiar with the Windows Phone marketplace, but I'm sure there must be a VPN option you could explore if you'd rather not have your RDP port open to the world. I don't know if there is an OpenVPN client available yet. My only experience with Mobile Windows devices and VPN is with the Sonicwall NetExtender SSLVPN client.

As for wake on lan feature. You'd have to make sure your VPN is forwarding broadcast packets or have something local that is sending out the magic packet for you.
