With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

See here for the GFX940 specific commits
Or Phoronix

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it

This is nuts, MI100/200/300 cadence is impressive.

ok I think it’s available on N44 but since that part is not releasing soon it’s omitted from the endnote. That’s my optimistic view.

AMD released some dibits of info:

But no performance slides. I guess the GPUs are still quite a while away, or the comparison is not that flattering to RDNA4. Might also just wait for Nvidia to make the next move. Either way this probably means we still have to wait quite a bit until we get more info
looking at how gigantic all the different models are, I'm a bit confused. Either performance will be better than expected or performance/watt will be way worse than expected. Given it's AMD...

Yeah, have same thoughts

  • Better media encoding quality (2nd-generation AMD Radiance Display Engine)
That interesting, we will see comparision

Anyone have info how many TOPS have RDNA3 cards?

So 9070 XT is on par with 4070 Ti in RT?
Given that they position it against their own 7900XT implies it likely won’t be cheaper than $650. At that price, it’s not going to do anything to shake up the market and I expect consumers will be pretty meh about it. Maybe even angry since people still have this notion that it’s AMD’s job to keep Nvidia in check, all while regrettably paying the Nvidia tax at the end of the day.

I'm guessing the non-XT 9070 to be on par with 6900 XT and to be be priced at $450 like 7700 XT was, for a 25% raster boost and prob 50% RT boost. The 9070 XT will probably go for $580 for MBA card like the comparative 6800 launch price (crypto inflated price filled by actual inflation + wafer costs), and AIB cards with more OC, TDP headroom could push it to 4080 class raster and price it for $650.
So, this would cover the $449-$649 range of leaked/speculated estimates.

If its 580$ MBA that means ~650$ for nitro+ noone will buy this trash.

I mean… why? There will be be no other AMD options at that price range and assuming 4xxxx series cards 4070+ are all being drawn down and 5xxx series will set new tiers, the options might suck.

If Nvidia undercuts them then I would expect them to adjust then.

And I expect these all to have some tariff protection built in.

Also, my 7900 XTX came yesterday, hoping we get the actual launch in the return window.

Might well be the case. But I don't see AMD undercutting NV by too much if they think they can stay close in performance, efficiency, and ML trickery.
At least they should've learned from 7700 XT. It was ditto a 3070 across the board (never mind +4 GB) and competed at similar market price without the green sticker, DLSS, NV productivity strength.

Well you u can get used 4070tis for this price... And i saw 7900xt openbox with full 36month warranty cheaper than that with 20GB vram. I would not recommend this card to anyone for that price even if 5070 is 699$
