With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it

This is nuts, MI100/200/300 cadence is impressive.

I don't get it. The only way this works is if AMD holds an event the day after 5070 non-Ti/Ti reviews go online and tells everyone, hey surprise! The moment this event ends, retailers are gonna start taking orders and shipping the cards ASAP! And they decide the price point once they have done a comparative price/perf analysis of NV cards with their own. I just don't have faith in them that they can do a great job of making sure everything goes as planned. Unless, they know for sure that NV cards will go OOS in minutes and it may take weeks to replenish them which would give them a window for gamers who will figure, hey, 9070 XT is available now and it mostly does what is needed so why wait until who knows when the NV cards will be back.

They would have so many sales now with the FOMO and hype around 5090 is out in 4 days who cares its AMD ppl want to upgrade... If you saw my twitter how many ppl were waiting on 9070xt... I had tweets with over 120k-140k views...

HWUB weighs in. I agree to some extent. No one that plans to buy a 5080 or 5090 is thinking about the 9070. Making sure they have everything right for the 5070 launch is a good plan. But if it launched before the 5070 I can't help but think it would steal some thunder, especially if it performs as well as the leaks show.

If the 9070 XT beats the 5070 Ti, there will be a lot of people deciding between a 5080 or a 9070 XT, myself included, but I'm not going to wait an extra month or two and risk getting hit with tariffs just to see if AMD's product is worth it.

Reviewers and some retailers have had cards for a week+ and now this gem of an announcement. What does all this tell us? CERTAINLY not that AMD planned to make any kind of splash with some great price/performance offering on these cards, thats for sure. Huang pulled the rug from under them. Very sad to see.

Would love to know how deliberately holding back product to sell (pissing off a bunch of partners down the chain) until after the competitor from a more well-known has already launched (and can therefore compete for sales) is in any shape or form a 'winning move'.

That's the problem. Only tech nerds know AMD GPUs exist.
If they launch it now, it won't exist due to 5090/5080 reviews.

They have a better product, but no way to insert it into market without a halo.
Timing the release right as gb203 chop/205 launch is one way to try to do that.

Only way out of this hole now is for Lisa to grow balls make, a proper annoucement apologize to gamers and partners and launch it with w/e price tbh. They can adjust it after 5070ti/5070 anyway...
