With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

See here for the GFX940 specific commits
Or Phoronix

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it

This is nuts, MI100/200/300 cadence is impressive.

I don't get, why people think that this delay is something bad? Imho, AMD absolutely not in a rush, time is for their benefit
I don't understand the overreacting either. Delaying is unusual but doesn't change the performance or position of the cards.

Just because delay was signed off does not mean those who caused this mess in the first place get a pass, at least it should not.
They do get a pass since they're making a correct decision.
Videocardz claims some reviewers had samples last month
No. But some people did.
Ah yes, personally insulting others is polite
Trust me, you haven't seen the true impoliteness.
Let's make sure we dial this down a bit and don't go there. -Moderator Shmee

Only way out of this hole now is for Lisa to grow balls make, a proper annoucement apologize to gamers and partners and launch it with w/e price tbh. They can adjust it after 5070ti/5070 anyway...

They couldnt adjust the price if ever it s too low, beside they cant adjust the comparison slides yet comparisons with the 4000 would be obsolete on launch day.

If the cards perform well it s better to directly compare with the 5000 in their marketing material, a comparison with the 4000 would give the perception that they are not up to the 5000, and worse, that they would be one gen behind.

AMD is totally playing 4D chess with this launch. I'm confident that the brilliant marketing team(s) at AMD that recently decided to name a flagship product AMD Ryzen™ Al Max+ 395, and have had one consumer product launch (9800X3D) in recent memory without a significant controversy is totally going to nail this.

FFS, how can anyone think this is anything but a complete bed soiling by the marketing team?

Intel has more balls than AMD in the space.
balls good GPU IP do not make
Sure the B580 has problems but hey they went in and launched two GPUs.
What else would they do with them? They're below pretty much the entirety of the Blackwell stack.
If Blackwell didn't suck, AMD would've dropped N48 parts just like that too.
Confidence is needed, think only about your product
This only works when you have the big stick.
The problem with AMD is they think about Nvidia too much, Nvidia doesn’t show AMD at all in their marketing.
Yeah instead comp analysis there sweats 24/7.

Serious question, do you think AMD is making the margin on the above MSRP pricing? Or the retailer selling them above MSRP? Just curious.

I got one 2 or 3rd week from Newegg at MSRP. Was able to place a backordered order. It also arrived 5 days earlier than they estimated.

EDIT: thought of another possible reason, the pre tariff gouging is setting in.

It’s very hard to get PC hardware at MSRP unless it’s absolutely crap ( see ARL ) in every other country other than the USA.

Do they sell N32 & N31 until March

Did they order these cards before the crypto boom ended ?
Technically crypto boom is just starting. Coins are way up in price. I bet you mean GPU mining boom? ETH and a few other algos made GPU mining profitable, but now it really isn't at all. Any mining is usually on ASICs, though CPUs can do decently at times.

That's the problem. Only tech nerds know AMD GPUs exist.
If they launch it now, it won't exist due to 5090/5080 reviews.
And somehow, these same unwashed masses would see a shiny new Nvidia GPU and think to themselves "let's wait for team Red instead?" Launching first at least gives first dibs at media coverage, which AMD desperately needs..
They have a better product, but no way to insert it into market without a halo.
Timing the release right as gb203 chop/205 launch is one way to try to do that.
It is one way, but AMD has had no halo in the GPU market multiple times before and did ok without doing this delay launch to match opponents tactic that they're pulling now. A good product at the right price will make its merits known regardless.

AMD didnt increase the price, retailers did to take advantage of the timely big demand, FI in Germany Mindfactory did increase it by 60€, there s nothing AMD can do because retailers are free to practice whatever price.

As for GPU pricing if AMD put the 9070XT at say 650$ then the public perception will be that it s forcibly much better than the 5070 if they dare asking this price, and also that it match a 5070ti given that AMD usualy offer better price/perfs ratios.

A 500$ price tag would be a blunder of epic proportions, as the retailers would either pocket a price hike and/or use this margin as a way to compensate for the slim ones they invariably get from Nvidia cards, ironicaly that would be indirectly subsiding your own competition, better to ask a fair price and get your RD financed.

No, they do not. They need a good product. It doesn't matter the order of reveal if it's good and priced appropriately.

That's all it takes to make up for being a mess.
Looking at all the events that have transpired though (the last-minute CES pulled launch, the unconvincing responses from AMD, the subsequent further delayed launch from Jan to March w/ clear evidence that ppl have cards already).. Do those indicate a team that is confident they have a good product?
