With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

See here for the GFX940 specific commits
Or Phoronix

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it

This is nuts, MI100/200/300 cadence is impressive.

If the cards perform well it s better to directly compare with the 5000 in their marketing material, a comparison with the 4000 would give the perception that they are not up to the 5000, and worse, that they would be one gen behind.
They can simply revise their marketing materials when the 5000 cards launch. And besides, reviewers would compare them to 5000 cards anyway. There is no excuse.

Uh, that sounds nasty!
I've seen way way way worse things.
Why would it cease to exist?
Client AIC GPUs are driven by narrative and perception, and it's pretty hard to conjure any headline presence for mainstream parts when the comp launches their halo.
It's still a stupid tactic that is causing them financial harm. Releasing the cards before the CES keynote would've been a great move. People are so desperate that B580 can't stay in stock and if AMD's claims about 9070 non-XT/XT are true, they are doing themselves a disservice by sitting on them.
B580 is an irrelevant toy with no volume. Be serious.

EWWW but the correct tactic is to make the do that even more by launching ASAP!
Wrong.
They need Blackwell reviews to showcase how underwhelming the parts really are before they drop their stuff.
Never heard of nerd rage? They could buy 5070s and say F to 9070 XT simply out of spite for the way AMD is messing with their minds by delaying this launch.
Nerds make a relatively tiny insignifaction portion of a toy GPU market.

5070 gamer with a card in hand and looking at 9070 XT price and performance. Joker taps him on the back and asks, "WHY SO SIRRIUOUS????"
Here's my version of the ad:
RTX 5070 owner with card in hand
writing a post on a forum containing "better than native" and "4090 performance".
Then cut to a montage of DLSS visual artifacts while the Curb Your Enthusiasm music plays.

Reminder: We don't allow trashing and bashing in vendor threads.

We had to Thanos snap a bunch of posts. It isn't even a full moon. Everyone chillax please.

AMD waiting to launch only makes sense if Nvidia's performance and pricing were big mysteries. Is it a big mystery? AMD has no idea what Nvidia will offer? If AMD has good cards ready to go, all they have to do is not be stupid with the price and release the cards. That's it. If they wait until march and then charge $600 for the stupid thing, then they will get what they deserve.

RDNA 4 launch only in late March ?

So RDNA 4 launch only in late March ?

Benchlife confirmed there are not many RTX 50 supplies on the market. This is mainly due to communication issues between NVIDIA and AIC, as well as the Spring Festival(Lunar Year) factors are expected to improve in February.
In addition, we expect to see the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti starting to appear on the channel in mid-to-late February. As for the RTX 5070, we may have to wait until early March.

but AMD was evidently caught off guard by something
The perf. The Nvidia perf.
What Blackwell below 202 offers is basically an official $50 pricecut on Ada supers.
Blackwell will also be pretty hard to refresh since die chops are already generous as is.
RDNA 4 launch only in late March ?
It launches when it launches.

Doesn't matter. RX 7900 XTX wasn't that far behind the RTX 4080. It offered Nvidia -$200. That's 400% the usual AMD discount! But since the RTX 4090 existed no one bought it. (Please ignore the other problems).
Technically 7900 XTX was ahead of the 4080 in general, by a bit, of course it depends on the game. But in general was a competitor with 4080/4080S. It did seem like the obvious buy to me, being better, cheaper, more memory, and I don't care for RT. And at the time I was more into COD MWII and it was the fastest card for that.

Of course I still probably paid too much for it in a way. Got it near launch for around $1200, though $600 of it I got off as a gift from Xmas. So depends how one looks at it, $1200 is a lot to pay overall, but still less than 4080 at the time. Also I came out ahead, about $600 out of pocket, and sold my 3090 for about $750.

that's gonna shift the narrative to "AMD can't compete against Blackwell".
alot people not so stupid. They know already 5070/5070ti price/perf
Monster Hunter Wilds soon release, a lot people would be upgrade to 9700 series, but AMD missed it again. so people gonna switch to green team
Kingdom Come 2/Final Fantasy 7 PC/Avowed... yeah AMD

Blackwell will also be pretty hard to refresh since die chops are already generous as is.

I don't think that it will be that hard:
  • 24Gbit GDDR7 Chips everywhere (except GB202 and GB207) and then a minor clock frequency and SM bump when possible
  • 5080S with 24GByte (256bit) and minor performance bump (like 4080S), still using GB203
  • 5070 TiS with 72...76 SM and 21GByte (224bit)
  • 5070S with the full 50SM of GB205 and 18GByte (192bit)
  • 5060 TiS with 40SM (GB205) and 15 GByte (160bit), replacing 5060Ti 16GB
  • 5060S with 32...34SM (GB206) and 12GByte
That at the same price points as the initial RTX 50 lineup and you are good to go.

The 7800 XT was delayed 8 months for an even worse reason. They're getting better, unironically. 2 months is an improvement.
If you believed the MLID leak, RDNA 4 should have launched in sep/oct last year

If it launches on Apr 1st 2025 then that makes it 8 months
