With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

See here for the GFX940 specific commits
Or Phoronix

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it

This is nuts, MI100/200/300 cadence is impressive.

Why the hell would they revise pricing downward if the comp failed completely.
The RTX 4070 Super (2025 Edition) having a $50 discount blew their minds. It blew our minds. We never considered the possibility Nvidia would offer more or less the same for slightly less. It was inconceivable.

AMD's official story was that they wanted a bigger event for RDNA4 and maybe that is part of the truth. It was originally intended to be a small section in the CES AI presentation. But maybe now they think it deserves some attention, another driver version bump and more inventory stockpile. That's my optimistic conspiracy theory anyway.

Maybe something in Jensen's presentation worried the heck out of them and they are trying to offer some cool driver feature. Could it be the Transformer Model that spooked AMD? That would be my best guess.

Conspiracy theory: They bought some time on one of the supercomputers they helped build with the MI300 and frantically training their model to get a leg up on Jensen.

Looking on YouTube and on Twitter/reddit most are really impressed with the Transformer model. Owen said he’d do a video on it, his general consensus was it’s a overall good upgrade.

Maybe AMD is also improving FSR4, if we take them at their word that’s what the delay is for improving FSR4 and including it in more games.

Yeah. That seems like the only plausible reason. They are always late with their software efforts, be it firmware, AGESA, patches, drivers whatever. A hardware company that aims to become a software company (to better mimic Nvidia) and still hasn't got enough experienced software people.

Transformer Model may be good and I haven't experienced it but the mere gesture of extending it to all RTX cards is what softened my heart a little bit. Jensen earned a lot of brownie points with this act. Maybe now I won't wish so bad to burn his leather jacket wardrobe.

Hmm, doubtful. The Ratchet & Clank FSR4 demo showed that they've massively improved IQ, possibly beyond DLSS3.8. DLSS4 with Transformer is better than 3.8 also, but introduces new visual issues. I would assume FSR4 IQ is already 90% of DLSS4, where FSR3 is ~50% of DLSS3.

Maybe they are making it more "just works" (a la driver CP setting) rather than needed to be tweaked, but the hardware and quality already seem to be there.

Same, I hope that AMD, nVidia, Intel and others see sense and at the very least add Bluesky accounts with the same posts.

Can you read Bluesky posts without an account? Someone posted a Bluesky link before and I could see nothing but a request to login.

IMO that a significant failure for Bluesky as an information dissemination tool.

It's the only reason that makes sense if your priors are that Nvidia can't fail but AMD always does. That's true.

Or maybe it's an underwhelming launch and it makes most sense to delay and let it fail to then be able to come in appropriately

Bluesky seems to work fine in browser anonymous mode (so not logged-in) fine, including reading timelines.

The notorious rotten bird (ex-parrot, heh?) site has been broken in this way (though at least individual post links should work I think?)

Why would they need to bundle it with the driver this time when it was bundled with games before?

Ok, maybe it was dead link by the time I saw it.

Because they're gonna hijack FSR3.x DLLs, same as NV DLSS driver switch.
perhaps if they wait a couple of months or more they could relaunch it as RDNA5
they really oughta strap GDDR7 onto it and launch as 9080XT.
