With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

See here for the GFX940 specific commits
Or Phoronix

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it

This is nuts, MI100/200/300 cadence is impressive.

That would all depend on performance. If the 9070XT ends up destroying the 5070ti in everything, including RT, it would be a good value.

Remember: there are negatives to selling your product for less than your competitors. A LOT of people assume (incorrectly) that price is some indication of quality/performance. Selling it for $750 could possibly increase sales! It all depends on the market. I am sure AMD has done its research here.

That being said, I hope it costs less. I might snag one for a build I am going to do for my daughter. I also haven’t owned an AMD card since polaris, so it would be cool to get one.
Well sure, if it destroys a 5070 Ti at the same price that's a great value. What's "destroys" a 5070 Ti though, 5080-class? That seems a little beyond even the most optimistic fever dreams here.

I personally interested in how much value it adds compared to the 7900xtx and based on the latest rumors, it seems not much, if any. (And yeah, why should one give a f how it compares to the 5070ti ?)

Because there's almost no stock of any Ada cards 4070+, and even Navi 31 stock seems to be dwindling down. It doesn't seem like this gen will play out like the last one did where 6800XT's were still getting moved out at firesale prices a year after RDNA3 launched.

Rome (NV) is crumbling. New kingdoms shall arise from the fall of the Empire and it certainly won't be ARC. loll
-------------------

Even at $750, looking at CURRENT GPU market, if AMD has the supply they can make people buy radeon. Up to $850 is bareable.
No amdumb is buying at 750$ for basic models that would mean 1100-1200euro for nitro+/tachi/red devil they would buy rdna3 or wait for fire sale and stealth price reducions.
Not even me and i just want that card for fun i almost dont play games anyway xD

They Should have bought the 6800 when it was $340
One, you are right.

Two, how the heck we’re really supposed to know that?

Three, that sucks.

Four, my kids have 6700XTs so upgrading is stupid expensive but…

Five, my daughter is putting together a PC for her “fifth grade passion project” that involves learning all the computer part names, etc. She will be doing it all with my supervision. When my son did the same I had socked away a freaking $1k 6700xt from Microcenter during a global pandemic that I had felt too guilty to crack the wrapping on but for him and that project it seemed worthy. I told him since I paid for all of those parts and showed him how it all worked, he could pick and pay for his own parts in the future when he felt that was too slow. I was going to the same for my daughter but… dang it! How the heck did we end up back here?!?

Six, that’s a rhetorical question. I know the how but hate the why. Why(s), plural.

It is true some stock just hit last night. Amazon has a few MSRPish cards including the 7800XT back in. Let's see how long they last before it's all scalper prices again.
Everything but the white ASRock 7900XT for $720 on Newegg are gone already. The restocks did not make it 24hrs.

Looks like MSRP cards are $750 and $650 for 9070XT/9070

So they actually delayed the cards to make them more expensive. Wow.

Looks like AMD chose to get ripped a new one in reviews and lose all the ability to regain marketshare.

This whole thing even stinks like they engaged in price fixing with Nvidia.
If they're not helping themselves when they have a clear win in front of them, there's really no reason to do that for them. People should just buy Nvidia and get access to all the extra features at this point.

Hyperbole aside. Watch and see. No amount of complaining is going to keep the cards from selling out.

Complaining won't do anything, but RTX 50 stock definitely will. We're already seeing reports of massive volume of GB202 coming up in a month, and the other chips should follow suit.

Deepseek might have lowered the orders for AI-only chips. The effect for that should take months, but will be there.

This is just wishful thinking.

AMD needed a clear perception of higher value to have people regain interest in their brand. At $750 they very obviously chose to degrade their brand instead.
They delayed their GPU release to make the cards more expensive, and this will be a gigantic stamp on their forehead for years to come.

Radeon RX 9070 XT GIGABYTE GAMING
What's wrong with these AIBs having the psu requirement of 850-900W ?
Just looked at the specs of sapphire nitro+ 7900xtx which is 420W tdp rated and requires 800W psu.
Is there any IPC gain if their new 64 CUs need more power than 96 older CUs plus all mcm associated expences and 50% more memory stuff?

Upd: basically whay they gonna do is to sell the same perf. at the same power for the same money?
Such an innovation ))
