With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

See here for the GFX940 specific commits
Or Phoronix

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it

This is nuts, MI100/200/300 cadence is impressive.

I have, a gut feeling Jensen is playing cat and mouse with AMD... IF amd releases their usual -50/100$ or even worse try to match it with 549$/749$ (cause "real" msrp is 899$ or w/e). Jensen will just provide huge supply of 5070ti and 5070 at close to msrp and that will kill amd launch. So either way 499$ is bad 749$ is bad... 479$/579$ is the way to go.

Still say it is a bad idea to have 2 SKUs, and both with 16 GB makes it worse. Should have just chosen one and run with it.

Also I don't think nVidia is playing games either. Especially with the 40 series supply toast.

Not happening. AMD is between a rock and a hard place right now. 5070Ti turned out to be fairly potent, matching 4080 Super. Very unlikely 9070XT will beat that by any significance. Their only hope is to have a street price that is actually affordable, which would mean they have to have stock. If they have much stock, they will likely go for $579/$699. $479/$579 is a pipe dream.

They have to have a lower SKU to sell partially defective die due to yields. There is no getting around that for a die this size.

Nvidia released nerfed 50 series cards. The problem for AMD is that afterburner unlocks 15-20% performance boosts on the 5080 without even trying. Boost the clocks of the GPU and a ram and you are done. Add to it that Nvidia can lower their prices whenever they want. I assume the 5070 and 5060 will be similar to the 5080 with nerfed stock performance and a ton of upside with GDDR7 and core clocks.

They're fine products at MSRP but the uarch just smells.
How does one spend however many years cooking a new SM only to arrive at like 2 notable regressions and that's it.
Not to mention they did clearly make backcompat sacrifices to try to squeeze more out of it.
See, when I thought NV would make a line in the sand with backwards support I'd assume a uArch bump closer to Maxwell.
Looks like AMD did as well.

seems so at least as the one with a 9700xt if all else equal is >300 more. so $450 + $300 is already $750. But then the site is terrible. I can't even see what motherboard or PSU is used so that might factor into the price as well the 9070xt lists a 850w psu while the other one doesn't even mention it.

The 9070XT needs to be noticeably faster (10% or more) than 5070ti/7900XTX in raster and very close or match the 5070ti in RT to make any sense at 750$ MSRP. I personally just don't see it happening with just 64CUs and low memory BW.
There are three options as I see it:
1) the MSRP is going to be lower and what we're seeing are still placeholder prices;
2) AMD is actually moronic and will be ripped apart in reviews (fake MSRPs or not on Nvidia side);
3) RDNA4 somehow indeed has per CU improvement (IPC?) close to GCN>RDNA1.
