With the GFX940 patches in full swing since first week of March, it is looking like MI300 is not far in the distant future!
Usually AMD takes around 3Qs to get the support in LLVM and amdgpu. Lately, since RDNA2 the window they push to add support for new devices is much reduced to prevent leaks.
But looking at the flurry of code in LLVM, it is a lot of commits. Maybe because US Govt is starting to prepare the SW environment for El Capitan (Maybe to avoid slow bring up situation like Frontier for example)

See here for the GFX940 specific commits
Or Phoronix

There is a lot more if you know whom to follow in LLVM review chains (before getting merged to github), but I am not going to link AMD employees.

I am starting to think MI300 will launch around the same time like Hopper probably only a couple of months later!
Although I believe Hopper had problems not having a host CPU capable of doing PCIe 5 in the very near future therefore it might have gotten pushed back a bit until SPR and Genoa arrives later in 2022.
If PVC slips again I believe MI300 could launch before it

This is nuts, MI100/200/300 cadence is impressive.

I happily eat a bit of crow with this incorrect prediction. $549/$599 are not terrible prices for the perf and features claimed. Seems 9070 will be low availability, low volume, the RX6800 / RX7700XT of this gen. Now lets see if literally any cards at all are available at this MSRP in the next few months.
Still, $599 is quite an acceptable price. Maybe finally my 1080Ti will be able to rest.
Seems that AMD DID NOT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY

So the geomeans of the raster and RT performance of the 9070XT vs the 5070Ti have it about on par in raster with the 5070Ti and about 5% faster than the 4070Ti Super in RT (or 93% of the 5070Ti RT performance).

Not to bad for $600 if you can actually buy them for that.

9070 looks like it will be around 4070Ti performance at 4K.

Interesting.

In Space Marine 2, DLSS Performance gets roughly double FPS vs native. AMD is claiming 3.4x FPS boost with FSR4 Performance. Interesting indeed. Even if IQ is slightly inferior at like for like resolution scaling, you might end up with better performance and equal or greater IQ at a higher quality scaling setting using FSR4.

EDIT: Or am I not seeing fine print on the use of frame get in AMD's slide?

Probably is upscalling+framegen.

Disappointing that there seems to have been a good deal of focus on the media engine but still no 4:4:4 support (otherwise I think they would've mentioned it in the slide?).

Guess what card will not match the 4070 ti

depending on reviews and how well used prices hold after this launch, it might be worth while to swap my 7900xtx for a 9070xt. ~same raster, better rt, fsr4, lower TDP. could basically be a free slight upgrade to hold me over until next gen

Will also be interesting to see how OC/undervolting is. My 7900xtx is absolute crap for that. Some games have stability issues with even 20mv undervolting at stock clocks.

So will the 9070 non-XT outperform RTX 5070 comfortably???
[Taking in account of the first party results of 9070 XT vs 5070Ti and the reduced CU and clocks of 9070 it looks like the performance will be neck and neck to the 5070]
The 5070 is a 4070 super discounted by $50

9070 should match it

Let's what they cook with RDNA5, that should be another major arch rework
RDNA5 is going to be very interesting indeed.

But Idk. Even a 80CU 320W 20GB Navi 4x clocked like the 9070 would be ~ +25% over the 9070 XT, and a good $850 premium card. Should be v close to a 4090 for roughly half the price. That would totally change the whole 2025 gen dynamics and be a hot seller. Would really irk the leather jacket.

I almost feel the same way, 100w idle power draw on my triple monitor setup kinda sucks. I just wish we had a clamshell vram version to be honest. 16 is probably fine but I want more!

9070xt looking very good at $599, I was wondering what I'd end up buying this year - but it looks like we have a winner.

9070 looks DOA though, given the price. Similar to the 7900XT vs 7900XTX. Weird choice by AMD, I get the common reasons - but I still disagree.

Of course, we'll need to see benchmarks before I believe AMD's numbers. They've fooled us in the past with the 7900xtx.
