RDRAM, would you ever buy it again??

I have just read an article on Rambus.

I know there was alot of issues, with licensing, and with other memory manufacturers.

Would you consider, ever buying RDRAM, ever again.

If Intel, made a deal with Rambus, for their new modules, and they were affordable.

IMO, if pricing was the same between DDR and RDRAM. I believe that the new RDRAM modules, would become mainstream.

If Rambus RAM was significantly faster and cheaper than DDRAM, certainly.

Pretty much every corporation you buy PC parts from has done evil, and try playing games on an operating system that wasn't christened with the blood of fuzzy bunnies.

Possibly, if it's relatively cheap, fast, doesn't throw off heat like the original incarnation did (they actually NEEDED heatspreaders!) and isn't crammed down my throat by Intel\AMD\VIA\Nvidia\SiS\etc.

Absolutely...RDRAM is a fantastic technology, it's just not a whole lot has gone right for Rambus when they try to market/sell it. Good technology, poor execution.

I've got 512mb pc1066 in my comp, and I wanna upgrade to a gig eventually, but price is holding me back.

If it offered good performance for the buck, yes. And both Intel and AMD have said they'd use it and future Rambus tech, if the market goes for it.

RDRAM offers the same bandwidth per real clock as normal DDR. It proved to have better overall performance, however, and was simpler to impliment.

Problem is, DDR got cheaper, and it didn't. There's more than one lawsuit and investigation still going on about this last part.

I have no stigma against Rambus. If the modules were affordable, stable and fast - that would work for me.

I have quite a bit in my fileserver... Before it was made into the fileserver, when I originally purchased the board and CPU, RDRAM was included with the processor

Using creative trades, I went from 128MB to 512MB PC800 with 256MB on the side without ever spending a dime on RDRAM.

I need another 2 256's for my RDRAM rig... but I also need both of my kidneys right now. No more RDRAM for me.
