It does not taste good, so why is it so popular? I understand that getting drunk can be enjoyable to some, but why beer?

Man, if you're drinking bitter beer, you're drinking the wrong beer.

Dude, all beer is bitter. Some might be more bitter than other but, like coffee, it's all bitter (at least to me).

Guinness isn't bitter. I'm drinking some Killian's right now and it isn't as bitter as stuff like Coors Light.

Killian's is a travesty. Ruined recipe. Try a real Irish Red, Beamish Red. It may be from Cork, but it's still better than that utter shite Coors puts out.

It's strange to see people complain about the taste of beer when so many drink the vile swill known as coffee. I'm wondering how many of those in this thread who think beer is nasty like coffee?

Tried some Pike Kilt Lifter tonight. I'd have to say it's second only to Boundry Bay in the scotch ale category.

You are for getting there are tonnes of small and micro brew American beers that taste great.

Like Sam Adams, Wachusette, Sierra Nevada, ect ....

And many are much better than most European beers

I have never, since my arrival in America, tasted a good American beer. The one thing I miss about home is the beer

Why would you come to America? We don't do anything right, be it beer, cars world politics, you name it we suck. Just read the posts. Get out as soon as you can, you'll be much better for it.

I'm Belgian and there are a lot of good beers in the USA (microbrews).
I've been to the Portland beer festival and there were some very nice

I do agree that Bud, Miller etc... tastes like piss but so does Heineken

I don't know how you guys can call beer nasty... it's an acquired taste, like coffee or wine. I can't stand wine myself, it tastes like fruit juice gone sour, and coffee i like, but i remembered the first time i tried my dad's coffee, no black no sugar, and it was worst than medicine, and i didn't understand why he would drink that.

Canadian beer has a much stronger taste than most others i've tried. Guinness? Smooth and creamy, definitely not what i think about what i think of 'beer'. US beers are also bland. If you want to drink just to get drunk, then you should be drinking hard liquor. Pinch your nose and down 8 oz of vodka, and you'll be set for the night. Me, when i drink beer, it's to enjoy it. Beer and a fat steak... beer and some HOT buffalo wings while watching a movie... Beer and a smoke or cigar on a hot summer night out on the porch, etc.

i figure for certain things you never get to acquire taste in your lifetime. alcohol is one such thing for me, i still think the best tasting alcohol is nowhere near as good as say, fruit punch drink. being drunk is yet another thing; i dont really mind it, but there are better ways to have fun, in my case anyway.

I agree - I still think coffee is nasty tasting, and I feel the same way about lite and mass-produced beers like; Bud light, Heineken, Miller High Life, San Miguel, Papst, Bass, Corona, St Pauly Girl, ect..

it's all about personal preference...

I prefer the taste of a good pint of Guinness, yet all of my friends and associates, save one, call it various names, like dirt, sludge, mud etc...

My father detests beer, but enjoys rye.. Again, personal tastes...

Don't see the appeal at all. I'd rather have Dr. Pepper or Sweet Tea

And Dr Pepper is like battery acid...

I'd rather have a Guinness...

I like beer... it tastes good. there's nothing quite like sitting outside in the shade on a hot summer day with some suds.

Of course, it depends on the beer... I dont like Bud, Bud Light, Corona, Normal Michelob (Ultra is pretty decent), Coors, Coors Light...

Understand the demographics of the board are mainly restricted to those who live in North America, and as such, have been underexposed to truly good lagers/ales/stouts. Really, even in Canada, where beer is taken a little more seriously, the quality cannot compare to a tap drawn straight from the Heart of the Black River in Dublin, or a fine pint in the Highlands, chased with a dram or two of a fine Macellan's..

Beer is nasty if you have been drinking that crap you can buy at party stores your whole life... I never liked beer until I had some homebrew/microbrew beer... I really like a lot of the differant beers that my girlfriends families brewery makes.
