amazon has not had a profitable quarter, accounting of course can get away with telling the investors they profit by saying certain charges are *one-time* or *restructing* and pretending they don't have anything to do with normal operations when the bottom line is, they are profiting from operations
its like saying enron has been profitable all this time... once you ignore *special charges*
its like back when Yahoo! was actually "making money" when practically all the *profits* were coming from interest earning from the money they had just sitting in the bank. that is not profits from operations. now Yahoo! is posting losses again because its operations cost WAY more than the interest coming off of that several billion dollars they have in the bank. Yahoo! was lucky enuff to get so much VC in the beginning, they probably will never run out of money, much like amazon, while others died, compost.com style, i mean outpost
